Another good instalment in DS Craigie series, slower to start than the others though.

With good prose, realistic police procedure (the best in the genre), good characters - though their development is a little lacking, and a believable plot, you know you're going to get a decent story with a NL book.

Minor Niggles:
I'm a little over every story being about the same thing though, (except the 2nd book, though the less said about that one the better!) It feels like it's become a crutch for him. Tbh it's only cause it's well written and is familiar that I'm reading it after realising the plot was going to be about Hardies again. And I've always felt like Bruce character is the least believable of all of them, and a little too handy as an easy plot device. Sometimes it feels like a cop-out to have an almost omnipotent character for the good guys. But it's still one of the best series in the Tartan Noir genre.

NL is consistently good, and this instalment is no different.

I know these stories are based on real life experienced by the authors working life as a covert specialist with the police force .. sheesh, its kind of hugely depressing. it makes me feel so nieve and grateful for the life that I have. it blows me away how evil some folk can be - yet I cant stop reading crime novels. I guess because the good guys usually win and its fascinating how they go about it. All their tips and tricks - go Max. go Barney! Max is a cool protagonist and I'd love him to be a mate - actually all of them. Great character development with lots of twist and turns keeps this audio series booming on a speaker at home and being listened to surreptitiously at work!

I care

Amazing and exciting story! The narrator and of course the author make you feel like you're part of the team 😊 and it's hard at times to realise all the characters are actually one person! 😅 I loved all the police procedures and the intricate details given of various aspects of the story; sometimes hard to quite understand, and I did have to rewind the story at times to fully grasp what was happening 😂 yes, full on exciting and with a very satisfying and emotional ending...can't wait for the next one!!! 😎😆😁

Brilliant!!! 👏👏👏😃💯💥
