Publisher's Summary

ISIS rocketed onto the world stage seemingly out of nowhere, beheading American hostages, bulldozing international borders, routing the American-trained Iraqi army, and carving out a new state that rules eight million people and a territory larger than the United Kingdom. But who are they? Where did ISIS come from, and how did they rise to power in so little time? What is driving them - and how can they be stopped?

New York Times best-selling author Robert Spencer reveals the blood-drenched history and inner workings of the Islamic State - its military conquests, how it is financing its expansion, and the ideology that is driving its success. As Spencer reveals, the Islamic State has taken the first steps on the path to becoming a serious world power - steps that Osama bin Laden and al-Qaeda dreamed of but were afraid to take. The Complete Infidel's Guide to ISIS is your one-stop easy reference for all you need to know about ISIS - and how "infidels" can stop its reign of terror.

Interesting but annoying narration

The book is an interesting account of IS. The author covers the topic in great depth though it does feel like he is somewhat opinionated and not so balanced at times. The narration however is pretty aweful. It is generally unclear when quotes are being used. Given the extent of quoted text it can be really difficult to follow and seems stupid that the narration doesn't account for this.

Politically correct westerns must read

Another awesome title from Robert Spencer. You listen to him talk in any setting and you can tell why Islamists have decided it isn't such a good idea to debate him publically.

The jabs at Obama are relevant to today's society and if you are a supporters of his you shouldn't just stick your head in the sand and pretend they are partisan. Actually think abut what is being written.

Is it reasonable for our President to claim that Islamic jihadists who are carrying out EXACTLY what is written in their holy book a thousand and a half years ago are really being motivated by GLOBAL WARMING!?

Mr. Spencer has said it before and it's true, we do not have any real Western powers anymore. A western power actually represents western values and strength. It speaks out against the evil that is decapitating the Christians, Yazidi's, Zoroastrians, other Muslims. It isn't ISIS, it is "radical" Islam.

Everything from Spencer is must read... especially with what is happening around the world in Paris, Syria, Israel, San Bernadino, etc, etc, etc, etc.

Spencer has carefully done his research and gives updated, relevant information for those interested in what the Islamic State is, its history, and why it's doing what it's doing. I have learned a great deal.

Nailed it

Spencer nailed the motivation, deception, and ultimate goal of Islam and the Islamic State. This should be required reading for every US and European elected official.

Not what I was expecting.

Was not what I was hoping it would be. I was more interested in an in depth history of ISIS and the war on Syria and Iraq. This is more of a wave top overview of where ISIS came from and a conservative critique of the Obama Administration.

I was certainly hoping for a more scholarly/historical analysis with little to no bias. This is NOT it. The author gives unneeded criticism to the Obama administration so much so that it breaks up the narrative to give his jabs. Even seems to be a climate change denier.

If you are looking for an informative book on current events, this is not it. If you are a conservative pundit this is a book for you. If not, move on.

Unapologetic look re: bellicose culture of Islam

A clear and concise look at ISIS, and the fundamental relationship to Islam. Suggesting how the West will inevitably lose the fight against terrorism, unless policy makers really understand the truth that; Islam and terrorism are not mutually exclusive. That Islam is NOT a religion of PEACE . It is, rather, BELLICOSE; a philosophy of War, conversion & submission, or subjugation & slavery, or finally death to the defiant. This is a philosophy taken directly from the Quran, the Hadith, and actual present day and historical incidences.

Chilling perspective on a complex issue

What made the experience of listening to The Complete Infidel's Guide to ISIS the most enjoyable?

This book seeks to explain much of the seemingly irrational actions of the group most commonly known as ISIS.
I think one of the most key points which is highlighted is the idea that in essence we are being lied to by Western media. A concept which is mentioned time an again is the idea that ISIS is not Islamic. The theory certainly of this author is in fact that ISIS ARE Islamic and follow their religion to the letter. This as is sited more than once is in the authors opinion the reason so many flock from Western culture to the Islamic State.
The book challenges a number of other key concepts entrenched in current Western Media. If for no other reason this book is a good read and talks some sense.

Any additional comments?

I would like to point out that while it is apparent the author has done significant research into the subject I certainly finished this book with the feeling that there is an entirely different side to Islam which it appears the author is ignoring.
I am keen to read The Infidels Guide to the Koran and some other books around this subject as I get the impression this is only one aspect of a very complex issue and I would go as far as to suggest that the author may well have cherry picked passages and key facts for the book that support his theories rather than presenting all the facts and drawing conclusions.

Essential listening

Unfortunately Mr Spencer is correct. We are living through the early years of world war 4.

God save us all.
