AI. SYNTHETIC BIOLOGY. QUANTUM COMPUTING. Everything is about to change. This is the only book you need to understand this new world.

From the ultimate AI insider, Mustafa Suleyman, co-founder of DeepMind, part of Google.

Soon you will live surrounded by AIs. They will organise your life, operate your business, and run core government services. You will live in a world of DNA printers and quantum computers, engineered pathogens and autonomous weapons, robot assistants and abundant energy.

None of us are prepared.

As co-founder of the pioneering AI company DeepMind, part of Google, Mustafa Suleyman has been at the centre of this revolution. The coming decade, he argues, will be defined by this wave of powerful, fast-proliferating new technologies.

In The Coming Wave, Suleyman shows how these forces will create immense prosperity but also threaten the nation-state, the foundation of global order. As our fragile governments sleepwalk into disaster, we face an existential dilemma: unprecedented harms on one side and the threat of overbearing surveillance on the other.

Can we forge a narrow path between catastrophe and dystopia?

This ground-breaking book from the ultimate AI insider establishes 'the containment problem' - the task of maintaining control over powerful technologies - as the essential challenge of our age.

Confronting but I think spot on there needs to be action on the global scale to consider what is happening and how we can best contain it so that everyone can benefit. Let’s not be ignorant.

Very interesting topic. Worth listening to. Mentions a lot of parallels, however, the power of this wave has no parallel.

It's actually a Tsunami that is coming.

Equally inspiring and terrifying. On the one hand AI sounds like the answer to all the worlds problems, and on the other hand, a totalitarian dystopian surely awaits. Suleyman is not afraid to lay out all the possibilities of the coming wave (that can sometimes read as a playbook for ‘bad actors’ to use the technologies against the masses). It’s a lot to take in. I am listening out of a sense of duty as I think it’s better to know what’s coming, but if you’re already anxious about the future, listen with care!

Not for the feint of heart!!

Incredible book. Really well orchestrated, historically backed up with many meaningful anecdotes and personal insight. This information is very relevant and worth understanding . Especially how multiple streams of high tech and the environment in which they thrive are inexorably coming together. The author reads this and the seriousness is in his voice. Best read I’ve had in many years.

I was indifferent to AI before this….was

Detailed, personal account of what’s happened and what is to come. A valuable read, balanced but leaning toward a troublesome future.

Depth and breadth … insightful

Probably the best book on AI in years with lots of new insights and how it will potentially affect our future.
