Griffith's plan can be summed up simply: Electrify everything. He explains exactly what it would take to transform our infrastructure, update our grid, and adapt our households to make this possible. Billionaires may contemplate escaping our worn-out planet on a private rocket ship to Mars, but the rest of us, Griffith says, will stay and fight for the future.

Soil is the unlikely story of our most maligned resource as swashbuckling hero. A saga of bombs, ice ages and civilisations falling. Of ancient hunger, modern sicknesses and gastronomic delight. It features poison gas, climate collapse and a mind-blowing explanation of how rain is formed. For too long, we've not only neglected the land beneath us, we've squandered and debased it, by over-clearing, over-grazing and over-ploughing.

Story
From a young age, her life was defined by uncertainty—by trauma and strength, sadness and hope, terrible lows and wondrous highs. As a teenager she found the courage to speak up after experiencing awful and ongoing child sexual abuse. This fight to find her voice would not be her last. The Ninth Life of a Diamond Miner is Grace's story, in Grace's words, on Grace's terms. Like Grace, it is sharply intelligent, deeply felt and often blisteringly funny. And, as with all her work, it offers a constructive and optimistic vision for a better future for all of us.

Publisher's Summary
Brought to you by Penguin.
We still have time to change the world. From Greta Thunberg, the world's leading climate activist, comes the essential handbook for making it happen.
You might think it's an impossible task: secure a safe future for life on Earth, at a scale and speed never seen, against all the odds. There is hope - but only if we listen to the science before it's too late.
In The Climate Book, Greta Thunberg has gathered the wisdom of over one hundred experts - geophysicists, oceanographers and meteorologists; engineers, economists and mathematicians; historians, philosophers and indigenous leaders - to equip us all with the knowledge we need to combat climate disaster. Alongside them, she shares her own stories of demonstrating and uncovering greenwashing around the world, revealing how much we have been kept in the dark. This is one of our biggest challenges, she shows, but also our greatest source of hope. Once we are given the full picture, how can we not act? And if a schoolchild's strike could ignite a global protest, what could we do collectively if we tried?
We are alive at the most decisive time in the history of humanity. Together, we can do the seemingly impossible. But it has to be us, and it has to be now.

Eye opening, well worth the listen.
I was afraid to embark on this as it’s a fairly long listen. But I figured what excuse do I have for not listening to it - I’d be ignorant of our children’s future. I’m glad I did listen to it. I had quite a few “Greta moments”, as I call them. Whilst slightly depressing at the state of things, it’s definitely got me motivated to change, and help raise awareness to the climate crisis. Listen to this now. There really is no excuse.

Fact-based essays on the changing climate
Book 1 #2024ReadingChallenge #Goodreads #Audible #Audiobook #5starrating

This is my first book finish for 2024.
And it hasn’t been an easy nor fast read. #GretaThunberg heads up each section with very succinct ideas and challenges. The rest is a series of essays written by scientists and advocates around the globe.
Reading it will change your way of thinking about the #climatecrisis and how we need to advocate for #justicebasedclimateaction to save ourselves and our beloved planet.
I highly recommend it to everyone on the planet.
