Publisher's Summary

Artificial intelligence leads to shockingly real devastation in this new novel in the number one New York Times best-selling Gray Man series.

Someone is killing the world's leading experts on robotics and computers. A desperate Russian scientist approaches Court Gentry and Zoya Zakharova to ask for their protection, but before they can help, they are attacked by a team of professional assassins.

They escape, but wherever they turn, it's clear that whoever's tracking them is always going to be one step ahead. With a danger of this level, there's no choice but to attack into the threat.

There is one man who may hold the answers to all their questions. But he's gone to ground in a fortress surrounded by a veritable army. If that's not bad enough, he has a new chief of security—Court's old comrade, Zack Hightower.

Good Ending that was unexpected.

This book was an extended storyline and leads towards the next book in the series. There was a good twist at the end which you didn't see coming.
The storytelling was superb with Jay Schneider as usual.

the narration is on point, this is literally a movie in your ears

the story, pacing and as usual the Gray Man are amazing, this is a must listen anyone who enjoys a good espionage and thriller story. The AI was smart, just wasn’t smart enough though, it could have spanned out in a lot more interesting ways, no spoilers.

The NZ accent kept taking me out the story

Ok.. first of all, I love the story, as I do with all Gray Man books. But I just wish that writers who don’t have a NZ native speaker narrating, would choose another nationality for their character.

I will concede that the New Zealand accent is the most difficult accent to perform and master. Even Sit Anthony Hopkins said it was the hardest he had ever had to attempt, and frankly still didn’t quite manage it. So I know it’s almost an impossible task.

The Hinton accent sounded mostly South African, at times Australian, with a little bit of British in there. But never once did it sound like a Kiwi.

As a New Zealander myself, when I hear our accent tried by narrators, it disrupts from the story. If someone cannot master it, perhaps just speak in your normal accent, bring in a second narrator, or change the nationality of the character.

That said… of course I love The Gray Man series and will always support it.

Another wild adventure with grey Man

I thoroughly enjoyed this novel, which I experienced through an ebook. The author immediately captured my attention from the very first page, and I found myself completely engrossed, taking every opportunity to listen. I particularly appreciated the return of characters Matt Handley and Zac Hightower.

The revelation of the villains was a satisfying puzzle that I pieced together towards the conclusion. The storyline felt especially pertinent in light of the increasing presence of AI in our daily lives and workplaces. The depiction of AI in a military combat setting was particularly chilling.

Kudos to Jay Snider for the exceptional narration; his work truly brought the story to life. I eagerly anticipate the next installment following the intriguing conclusion of this book!

All the old team and players come back together again

A perfectly woven web of old connections come together to defeat the machines. I was glad Court never ended the main baddie and that it was Zac that stood up and did what needed to be done. The tension in the room was palpable when Gentry had realised Zoya was gone and now all the Gray Man readers will have to wait another year to find out how he is going to rescue her.

Gruelling pace of action

LOVE IT!
In my humble opinion, I think Greaney out shined himself with this book. Not one moment of slacking down. If Hollywood use their brains they'll make a movie of Chaos Agent, seeing that there's for sure a follow-up, it can turn into more in the future.
