Publisher's Summary

Widely respected as a civil libertarian, legal educator, and defense attorney extraordinaire, Alan M. Dershowitz has also been a passionate though not uncritical supporter of Israel. In this audiobook, he presents an ardent defense of Israel's rights, supported by indisputable evidence. Dershowitz takes a close look at what Israel's accusers and detractors are saying about this war-torn country. He accuses those who attack Israel of international bigotry and backs up his argument with hard facts.

thorough case put forward

I'm a fan of Alan, his objectivity, analysis and critique is thorough and well articulated with lots of examples all the way through the book to back up his point. If you want some good secular arguments to counter anti- Israel perspectives there's lots of material in here to do that. I particularly liked the historical examples and references to the host of events prior to and after the re-creation of Israel in 1947, eg the 6 day war, failed Arab invasion, Yasser Arafat walking out of the Camp David negotiations etc... towards the end Alan takes some time to critically analyse some comments and general attitudes of the academia toward Israel, especially Noam Chomsky. Good read . Recommend .

The best book on clarifying the facts and eliminating ignorance.

I'm a proud American Liberal and more and more of my liberal friends are staunchly anti-Israel. When we get into conversations their arguments never seem well informed. For example: one didn't even know there was a separation between Gaza and the West Bank politically. A girl friend literally said: "I don't think I can ever visit Israel or another country that oppresses women, I mean they are forced to wear head coverings." I responded: "you mean a secular democracy forces women to wear head covering? How did you get that information?"
I'm finding the worrisome concept that in order to be a good liberal you are expected to be anti-Israel. Not because of any hard factual data to back anything up, but because that's what good modern liberals do - they hate Israeli "Apartheid genocide" of Palestinians that has zero evidence.
Please share this book and hopefully we can dispel these myths.
This is an excellent source to back up real arguments and help enlighten people.
I wonder how many pro-Palestinian people won't touch this book because of the title alone.

Is Middle East peace possible???

We know that there has been conflict in the region between Israel and its Arab neighbors since the establishment of the Jewish state of Israel after World War II. But from then to today, peace still eludes the region.

The author who also happens to be an attorney, makes a case for the right of Israel to exist... putting aside the various forms of anti-Semitic rhetoric that further clouds the possibility of peace, we are taken exhibit by exhibit through what both sides are arguing and makes a strong case for the right of Israel to exist as a Jewish state.

If you want to see both sides point of view and reasoning, this book is also an excellent primer for Middle East history.

I would recommend this book strongly for anyone involved in Middle East peace process as well as for those who want to understand better the conflict.

More Relevant Now Than Ever

Antisemitism is on the rise both worldwide and in the United State, and in both major parties. That Overton window is getting smaller and smaller by the day and Dershowitz’ fear is coming true. Soon, Anti-Israeli policy will be a plank in the Democrat platform and part of the university curriculum.

Very good and important book

However the authors premise doesn't support his conclusion. If the facts presented are true, then there will never be a 2 state solution. Don't get me wrong, It's a great idea, but the PLO doesn't even want the Palestinian "refugees" as its citizens in an independent state. That should tell you everything you need to know about having a "partner for peace".

good case for Israel

paper version would be good where you can check the sources for the claims made but if everything said in this book is true then it really makes one angry at those bad arabs and gullible people falling for their propaganda! Need to do further research..

A necessary if slightly dated book

Antisemitism is rearing it's head in the UK again so I decided to start educating myself a bit & this was one of the first books I picked up. I'd like to see an updated version but the arguments hold up well.

I'd say it's worth picking up even if you are an avid detractor of Israel as it's invaluable to hear the counter argument made well, the only thing that lets this book down slightly is the narrator (probably just a personal preference on my part) but other than that it's outstanding & very worthy of your time.
