About this listen
"Occasionally, we all lack the courage to embrace the torture that is love."
Dylan
As a proud physiotherapist fresh out of school, I never imagined falling for a client. Especially not fallen football star, Lake Decker. His over-confident, broody attitude has me biting my tongue and doing whatever it takes to keep this job and support my secrets. Secrets Lake keeps pushing me to unravel.
Lake
I don't fall for women. Women fall for me. I'm Lake Decker, best running back in the league. Former. After a debilitating injury forced me to step back from my budding career, the last thing I thought I'd be doing was drooling at the feet of my stale-looking therapist. But her saucy attitude, strict professionalism, and the occasional shiner have my curiosities piqued.
One thing is certain, we both know how to act tough in the face of adversity, but at our core, we're nothing but a couple of cowards.
From author Jescie Hall comes a compelling and angst-filled love story that will pull at your heartstrings and never let go. Narrated in duet style.

Really pulled at my heartstrings
I love everything by Jescie Hall but this is an absolute masterpiece. All the complex romance novel elements I love, with a genuinely beautiful story and realistic characters. She’s not afraid of her characters making bad choices, making them so much more real and relatable.
Of special note (with minor spoilers):
The FMC is the primary caregiver of her severely autistic older brother. I’m so in love with the way the brother is written. Jescie clearly has personal experience with autism. He’s not a burden, he’s a beautiful person, so insightful despite (or perhaps helped by) his somewhat callous seeming delivery. The repetition, the stimming, the phrasing and very real issues he experiences were so well written and performed. I’m crying after the scene in the stable, so beautiful. It’s wonderful to see neurodivergent people included in a way that showcases their strengths as much as their challenges
