AD 265 - In the shadow of Mount Etna, slaves are rising up. As the rebel leader declares Sicily the new land of the free, men and women are slaughtered and cities across the island are sacked and burned.

When a ship is wrecked off the island's west coast, all but two survivors are cut down in the surf by the rebel slaves. Ballista, an experienced Roman soldier, has always found a way to survive against the odds - but his son Marcus is still just a boy.

The narrator was so bland. He did no accents and was just monotoned. At least put some emotion into it if you can’t do the accent. I hope they didn’t pay him much

I’m glad ballista was doing a siege again but I’ll be honest I struggled with the narrator

Sorry Dr Sidebottom but I'll be returning this. I'm an hour in and the narration is so poor that's it's ruining Ballista for me. I'm planning on purchasing the paper book and doing the accents myself... I'll get some funny looks on the bus but at least it'll do your characters justice.

Great story as always. After reading all Balistas adventures so far its hard to imagine him getting older but it makes sense and its good to know he is still a weapon on and off the field.
Nice book Harry. On to Falling Sky now.
