The Hematoi descend from the unions of gods and mortals, and the children of two Hematoi-pure-bloods-have godlike powers. Children of Hematoi and mortals-well, not so much. Half-bloods only have two options: Become trained Sentinels who hunt and kill daimons or become servants in the homes of the pures. Seventeen-year-old Alexandria would rather risk her life fighting than waste it scrubbing toilets, but she may end up slumming it anyway.

Chosen from birth to usher in a new era, Poppy’s life has never been her own. The life of the Maiden is solitary. Never to be touched. Never to be looked upon. Never to be spoken to. Never to experience pleasure. Waiting for the day of her Ascension, she would rather be with the guards, fighting back the evil that took her family, than preparing to be found worthy by the gods. Being destined to become some kind of supernatural electrical outlet isn't exactly awesome - especially when Alexandria's "other half" is everywhere she goes. Seth's in her training room, outside her classes, and keeps showing up in her bedroom - so not cool. Their connection does have some benefits, like staving off her nightmares of the tragic showdown with her mother, but it has no effect on what Alex feels for the forbidden, pure-blooded Aiden. Or what he will do - and sacrifice - for her.

Alexandria isn’t sure she’s going to make it to her eighteenth birthday - to her Awakening. A long-forgotten, fanatical order is out to kill her, and if the Council ever discovers what she did in the Catskills, she’s a goner...and so is Aiden. If that’s not freaky enough, whenever Alex and Seth spend time "training" - which really is just Seth's code word for some up-close and personal one-on-one time - she ends up with another mark of the Apollyon, which brings her one step closer to Awakening ahead of schedule. Awesome.

Story
It's been a year since Seth made the deal with the gods that pledged his life to them. And so far, the jobs they've given him have been violent and bloody - which is kind of all right with him. But now Apollo has something else in mind for Seth: He has to play protector while keeping his hands and fingers off, and for someone who really has a problem with restraint, this new assignment might be the most challenging yet.
Publisher's Summary
Number-one New York Times, USA Today, and internationally best-selling author Jennifer L. Armentrout returns to the world of the Lux with this steamy, shocking third installment of the Origin series that will leave listeners reeling.
He is the darkest star.
She is the burning shadow.
And together, they will bring about the brightest night.
Less than a year ago, Evelyn Dasher was a normal girl, living a safe, rather unremarkable life - a life that was a total lie. Now she's learned the truth about who she was and what she is.
Hidden within Zone 3, she knows that if she loses control of her dangerous abilities again, she not only puts everyone in the secret community at risk, but also the beautiful, deadly inhuman Luc. He will do anything to keep her safe. Lie. Barter. Beg. Kill.
But there are truths that not even Luc can prepare for, and as Evie's abilities evolve, the consequences of everything he's done turn devastating.
Luc is stepping into the darkness. But Evie might already be lost to the shadows.

Seriously?!?!
I like the series, mostly Luc and his quirky way of holding on to some form of easy adolescence that was clearly taken from him all while being a strong leader way too early. HOWEVER.... I finished this authors latest book in a different series (yes, kingdom of flesh and fire) went to her website, and started this series. Website did not say this was an ongoing series, just listed the 3 main books. So my expectations that book 3 of Origins would wrap this story up and conclude. Nope. If this is the last book, I am very disappointed and encourage you to find something else to read. If this isn't the last book (which I can't find anywhere that says the author has plans for another installment as of the time of this review), I strongly suggest the publisher or author at the very least make it easy to find and let readers know there will be another book.

Very YA, teenage romance, story a bit predictable
So I read a lot of good reviews for the Lux series and somehow ended starting with this one. It was okay to kill time, but not WOW as I hoped and hyped by reading reviews. But then again someone might LOVE it and that is ok. I thought it quite slow paced at times and dragged out unnecessary.

Not the last book....
First, I would like to address the ending, since most of the reviews here complain about it. I think any of these people read this and assume it is a trilogy. My assumption is actually the opposite. As the Lux series, which I have not actually read, was more than three books, this series, based on this ending and my knowledge of the author, is certainly not over. That being said, the ending was intense, and not bad at all. Was it what you wanted to happen? No. But no good book goes exactly the way a person assumes it will. If it did, it would be cliché and people would complain about that instead. I liked this book. I like this author. And although there is no official announcement yet, I suspect we will get news of another book for this series soon.

Holy Alien babies everywhere! What a ride!
Holy alien and lama babies everywhere 😱 I'm mindblown 🤯 speechless, shocked, confused, a bit angry, a lot terrified and so so curious and intrigued. I'm still trying to wrap my head around what I read. I pronounce JLA the master of twists and turns. This book was full of surprises and so many unexpected plotlines. I have no idea how she manages to pull this out with every single book. Keep my attention glued to the pages and manage to leave me with mouth hanging wide open and desire for more. I'm kind of horrified for the next one. What a ride though. Absolutely amazing. And what a great listen that was. Outstanding audio performance. I simply love this world. This is the best spin-off series I've ever read. One may think I would get bored after a 10th book in this world, but I'm so addicted to these characters, I don't want to ever leave this universe of Luxen, Arum, Origins, Hybrids and other powerful creatures. They are like family now. I felt their pain, fought their battles along with them, loved, cried and laughed with them. The emotions were so deep and strong, I was overwhelmed with everything happening. Evie and Luc were just so cute together and their connection in this one really felt unbreakable. The romance was so sweet, the story so intriguing, the battles so intense. Everything fit perfectly like puzzle pieces added together to make the full picture. So well thought and captivating. There were also some very steamy scenes. Wink, wink ;) But the proverbial cherry on the cake was the appearance of all the others from the Lux gang. All scenes they were present, made me emotional, on the verge of tears or grinning wildly. It was so awesome to be back in this world and with these characters. That ending though. What was that ending 😱🤯 Still processing. I can't wait to read more, although I have to admit I'm a bit scared. With the above said I solemnly declare I'm addicted to Lux and Origin world. I need my next fix in this universe. P.s Swoon Alert! Shirtless Daemon with baby Adam. My heart nearly melted at that scene. Brace yourself to have your heart fall in love with these characters all over again 💘
