A Light Hearted Romp

An enjoyable and convincing story of family relationships and dynamics. The characters are well rounded and believable, but I feel that the numerous explicit sex scenes detract from the book.

Aoife McMahon's performances are nothing short of brilliant! Her rendition of the voices of the various characters is superb and very convincing.

The Break would appeal to those interested in romantic fiction and family dynamics in modern day Ireland.

Ahh Marion you've nailed it again !

The whole time I was reading this it felt real ... it felt like a million other women's lives ... including mine ! Thankyou for the incredible ending ... and that eldest daughter ... I'll be doing this one again cause when I like a book I re read it about 🍈5 times and each time I reread yours I learn something about your characters and myself that I didn't realise before. I've lost count how many times I've read Rachel's holiday ... it's usually my road trip Xmas book .. i listen as I drive ..and laugh in places I didn't laugh last time. Can't wait for the next book ..

Heartfelt and Engaging

The characters in this story are so real, honest, flawed and engaging they really draw you in. I felt like I experienced everything with Amy, the main character and highly recommend The Break.

Marian Keyes at her best!

Her writing transports the reader into the lives of the characters. This book is another one of her masterpieces.

Thought it would never end.....120 plus chapters of nothingness.

I really disliked this audiobook. I was not sure from the outset but thought it might get better so persevered; now wish I had not bothered. The lead character is at best flaky and acts like a teenager....hated the American slang thrown into conversation by all and sundry from the various siblings/children/co-workers/cast of several thousand. Characters were one to two dimensional, storyline flimsy and overall outcome predictable. My last Marian Keyes book....used to love her but this just made me feel like I wasted my time and brain cells listening to a story about people I could not care about.

Disappointing<br />

This is the first of Marion Keyes books that I've struggled to engage with. I found the characters thin and superficial, the plot disappointing, but the reader was excellent.

A story of life, Love, hurt and healing -authentic

The story was wonderfully believable. The characters were real and very relatable. While I enjoyed the Book, I found it slow and longer than was necessary.

Loved it!

Love Marian Keyes and her books! Always so entertaining- her characters are so full and funny and real - especially the women - all that gerbil ball racing in their heads! Love it! Thanks again for another great book!

Narrator was excellent as usual. The story was ok and end was predictable. Wouldn't read again.

So boring ...

Marian Keyes books used to be my reading-candy: funny, original, easy to digest - but somehow true, always with a really serious human theme underneath the lighthearted story. But this one leaves me speechless. Was there no editor to sharpen the story? Its full of repetitions, lots of loose ends that appear and disappear pointlessly. Yes, there are sparkles of the Keyes wittiness we love, but its so diluted, I can't recognize it.

Not her best

I think I am out growing Marian Keyes. This was very dull and I knew what was going to happen right at the beginning.

Incredibly Disappointing

I have adored all of Marian Keys Other books and would rate all of them as a 5. Sadly though, it pains me to say that this one was really rubbish. The main Character Amy is so self obsessed and miserable. The story is also boring. It contains no humour . It was bland and dull. The only reason I got through this book was because I was on a long train journey.
If you haven't listened to Marian ' s other books, I would say defiantly listen to them instead.

She's done it again

No one can navigate the reader through heart rending , agonising life traumas like Marian Keyes. Her characters are loveable and real. I want to stay with them all through the rest of their lives

What the actual.....? Crash course in modern Irish

Would you consider the audio edition of The Break to be better than the print version?

Very funny and enjoyable book with helpful hints on having and affair, a marriage and a holiday. It is the idiomatic Irishness that is the great joy along with the fantastically well drawn characters.
My one criticism is that the reader, who is generally superb, never gets to grips with a Geordie accent for one of the lead characters which is distracting.
It is a very lively and quite lengthy book, great value and great entertainment life you like a bit of fecking and blinding, also a lot of hot sex scenes....just so you know!

Best Marion Keyes for years

I’m a 64 year man, former car racer and still a biker - just checked my shelves and Marion’s first seven books are there in a row.
This book is noticeably different from those wonderful, sometimes uneven, always deeply insightful and uniformly joyously mad tales.
For me this is the best, most mature piece of storytelling she has done - I had a little weep of joy as it ended.
