A Light Hearted Romp
An enjoyable and convincing story of family relationships and dynamics. The characters are well rounded and believable, but I feel that the numerous explicit sex scenes detract from the book.
Aoife McMahon's performances are nothing short of brilliant! Her rendition of the voices of the various characters is superb and very convincing.
The Break would appeal to those interested in romantic fiction and family dynamics in modern day Ireland.

Ahh Marion you've nailed it again !
The whole time I was reading this it felt real ... it felt like a million other women's lives ... including mine ! Thankyou for the incredible ending ... and that eldest daughter ... I'll be doing this one again cause when I like a book I re read it about 🍈5 times and each time I reread yours I learn something about your characters and myself that I didn't realise before. I've lost count how many times I've read Rachel's holiday ... it's usually my road trip Xmas book .. i listen as I drive ..and laugh in places I didn't laugh last time. Can't wait for the next book ..

Incredibly Disappointing
I have adored all of Marian Keys Other books and would rate all of them as a 5. Sadly though, it pains me to say that this one was really rubbish. The main Character Amy is so self obsessed and miserable. The story is also boring. It contains no humour . It was bland and dull. The only reason I got through this book was because I was on a long train journey.
If you haven't listened to Marian ' s other books, I would say defiantly listen to them instead.

What the actual.....? Crash course in modern Irish
Would you consider the audio edition of The Break to be better than the print version?
Very funny and enjoyable book with helpful hints on having and affair, a marriage and a holiday. It is the idiomatic Irishness that is the great joy along with the fantastically well drawn characters.
My one criticism is that the reader, who is generally superb, never gets to grips with a Geordie accent for one of the lead characters which is distracting.
It is a very lively and quite lengthy book, great value and great entertainment life you like a bit of fecking and blinding, also a lot of hot sex scenes....just so you know!

So boring ...
Marian Keyes books used to be my reading-candy: funny, original, easy to digest - but somehow true, always with a really serious human theme underneath the lighthearted story. But this one leaves me speechless. Was there no editor to sharpen the story? Its full of repetitions, lots of loose ends that appear and disappear pointlessly. Yes, there are sparkles of the Keyes wittiness we love, but its so diluted, I can't recognize it.

Best Marion Keyes for years
I’m a 64 year man, former car racer and still a biker - just checked my shelves and Marion’s first seven books are there in a row.
This book is noticeably different from those wonderful, sometimes uneven, always deeply insightful and uniformly joyously mad tales.
For me this is the best, most mature piece of storytelling she has done - I had a little weep of joy as it ended.

Give the reader a break!
I was disappointed with this book. Although a really good story-teller and witty author, I thought Keyes really overdid the sex scenes and the swearing. The book is very long and I found myself getting bored regularly through it. There was so much repetition of scenes. A tighter storyline and less of the above would have made a really good novel. She examines the modern family with great insight and her characters are very real. Some parts are very, very funny. But for all that, would I recommend it? An abridged version maybe.

A good nineteen hours
I haven't read any marian Keyes books. (No idea why) I saw a lot of negative reviews about this one. But I enjoyed it . It has a very engaging cast of characters and content enough to fill nineteen hours with humour and plot that made me think fairly hard about love in its various forms. The narrator is excellent. I know this author has written a lot of books and I will be trying more for sure. Think her fans rate her work and poss this fell a little short for them so her others must be even better I'm thinking.
