Publisher's Summary

The new Kay Scarpetta novel from the world's number-one best-selling crime writer. In Alberta, Canada, an eminent paleontologist disappears from a dinosaur dig site, and at the Cambridge Forensic Center, Kay Scarpetta receives a grisly communication that gives her a dreadful reason to suspect this may become her next case. Then, with shocking speed, events begin to unfold.

A body recovered from Boston Harbor reveals bizarre trace evidence hinting of a link to other unsolved cases that seem to have nothing in common. Who is behind all this? And whom can Scarpetta trust? Her lead investigator Pete Marino and FBI husband Benton Wesley are both unhappy with her because of personnel changes at the CFC, and her niece Lucy has become even more secretive than usual. Scarpetta fears she just may be on her own this time - against an enormously powerful and cunning enemy who seems impossible to defeat.

Patricia Cornwell series FANTASTIC

I have almost finished all of the books in the Scarpetta series. I have thoroughly enjoyed them.
now getting through the JD Robb series...just as much fun. well...quite tense at times but cannot stop listening!
Lorelei King is the BEST narrator for the series and I get quite annoyed when there are other narrators with raspy voices I have to listen to...you see...desperate to hear the content, but then get irritated with the narration (if not Lorelei King)
I will now go back and rate the other ones...all 5 stars...but won't be writing any reviews...this is for ALL Patricia Cornell's Scarpetta books.

Average overall.

Slow drawn out storyline with the usual frantic finish. Not the worst book in series.

A good story.. usual Scarpetta..

I cannot fault this book, but I must be honest.. I was a little bored. maybe I've had too much of Kay Scarpetta.. blah, blah, blah..... I didn't finish it, but probably will go back t it once i'm over my boredom. If you are an avid Scarpetta fan, then by all means read this one!

Read by speech recognition software???!!??

I have been a fan of Patricia Cornwell and the Scarpetta novels since they were first published, and have read them all. I joined audible and found the latest novel available, downloaded it and was quite looking forward to experiencing a tale with energy, character and complexity.

Accepting that the book would not be in the internal voice that I am used to, when reading a paper copy, and having had some excellent experiences with audio books, I was raring to go.

Getting used to the narrator took some time, the narrators tone was rather flat, although not to the point of being completely monotone and often seemed mechanical in the pronunciation. Apart from the voice changing to a more masculine tone for Pete Marino, the narration often led me to think I had switched on the narration function of my Kindle!
The story lines were pretty weak, and predictable and crossover for explanation and linking poor. The finale - a disappointment.

I wont be buying another audible Scarpetta novel, or anything else by Patricia Cornwell, as she seems tired and the book is lacklustre. I will also remember that narration by Lorelei King is definitely not for me.

Cornwell back to her best!

Enjoyed this audio book whilst on holiday in Turkey. Cornwell is definately back to her best in this gripper, Great plot, well written and had the depth I have missed in some of her more recent novels.

Classic Cornwell

Much better than other recent works by same author. Getting back to the quality of storytelling in her early books.

Well narrated as usual by Lorelei King...

Information Clearer in Short Chapters

I liked the short chapters, it made the detailed descriptions easier to follow, or play again if unsure of any meanings. I liked the story much better, but am not sure if it was a better plot or because of the aforementioned. Hope this method continues. The ending wasn't rushed, leaving blanks, like I've complained about in some of her other titles.

Unsolvable by the reader

This book is read fine, but the listener simply unsolvable by the listener. It has all the typical Patricia Cornwell nerdy forensic detail, but also sees the listener being lead through the story with no chance to work out who the murderer is still it is revealed by the book, because the character is only properly introduced a few pages before.

Absolute Rubbish

Pity there isn't a 'no star' option. The only good thing I have to say about this book is that the narrator is brilliant. No more Patricia Cornwell for me.

Poor

I've read or listened to all the previous books but this is the first one I struggled to motivate myself to keep on listening. All seemed very rushed at the end and seemed very slow throughout. No issues with the performance.
