About this listen

Lady Augusta Penworthy is in dire straights.

Her father has spent every last coin, and she and her sisters cannot even afford coal. One chance encounter and a torn gown changes everything. While one might think a sudden marriage to a wealthy lord a relief if that marriage is to the Duke of Blacktower, one would be vastly mistaken. For no young lady wishes to be that infamous rake's bride.

The Duke of Blacktower has a secret. He has vowed never to marry and has ensured his fearsome reputation would dissuade any hopeful lady or their scheming mama. Now, his hand has been forced, and his fury is unleashed. But Lady Augusta is not the manipulative young lady he believed, and suddenly he finds himself tempted by his own bride.

The cadence of the narrators feels odd to me. The male narrator uses staccato throughout his performance much more than I think we hear in speech in general, and the female narrator's intonation during conversations leaves me feeling that the participants are speaking at something rather than to another person. Those thoughts aside, both narrators have pleasant voices and I'm sure I'll enjoy future performances by both as their skills expand.

Okay story, okay narration.

Storyline was good, well written and the narration was ok though s little fast in spots. I loved they stuck to a story with no great love making scences. Recommended to others. Room for follow on stories.

A good listen

I liked the story but not so much when it got violent.
Grate story! I loved the main characters.

I enjoyed that it started with a wedding and ended up a love match!

The writing was very average, lots of repetitive lines. The story was okay. Could have been much shorter.

Acceptable romance

There's 25 minutes of my life i'll never get back. Could at least try not to be so predictable or create characters with depth of a teaspoon 😪

reads like a Christmas cracker
