About this listen

Her family's cottage on the New Jersey shore was a place of freedom and innocence for Julie Bauer - until her 17-year-old sister, Isabel, was murdered. It's been more than 40 years since that August night, but Julie's memories of her sister's death still shape her world. Now someone from her past is raising questions about what really happened that night. About Julie's own complicity. About a devastating secret her mother kept from them all. About the person who went to prison for Izzy's murder - and the person who didn't. Faced with questions and armed with few answers, Julie must gather the courage to revisit her past and untangle the complex emotions that led to one unspeakable act of violence on the bay at midnight.

Critic Reviews

"The story of what really happened unfolds organically and credibly, building to a touching denouement that plumbs the nature of crimes of the heart." ( Publishers Weekly)

If you could sum up The Bay at Midnight in three words, what would they be?

Very good read

Any additional comments?

I love the author and have read a number of her books but one thing I noticed in this book that really annoyed me was repeated all through the book" I said" " she said" "he said"
Other than that I really enjoyed it

I enjoyed the story but the narrator of Julie was hard to get past especially with the i said she said

The main narrator was annoying

This is okay but not a real page turner. Julie one of the main characters is bordering on annoying made worse by the narrater and her exaggerated pronunciation of “I said” and “she said” etc. Diane has much better books

Not Dianes best work.

There were some seriously long, drawn out “I saaaiiiddd”, “she saaaiiiiddd”, “he saaaIiiddd”s that made it difficult to listen to. I’m sure the story was great as usual but I gave up because of the painful narration

Naration was hard to listen to
