About this listen

It has been two years since Lady Marion Tunstall lost her husband at sea, two years of sorrow and grief. Only now has the comely young widow finally reentered society. It is then, when she and her family attend the merriment of a country dance, that Lady Marion sees her dead husband, alive and well - and faints dead away.

Lord Tristan Tunstall has no choice but to confess: He is alive, yes, but not a whole man who can be a husband and father. When he offers her a divorce, however, Marion stubbornly refuses. Now she has forced herself back into his life and into his home and (oh, God forgive his weakness) his bed. He cannot stop himself from wanting her, loving her. But can he live with the secret she is keeping from him?

Firstly This story could have been condensed into a novella. As a novel it was too much full on petty drama snd repetitiveness e.g. of ‘poor me, not a whole man’ nonsense. it also perpetuates the ‘heightened other senses’ myth. Disappointing.

Wow, what love story. Probably the most emotional Regency stories I’ve encountered on Audible to date. Two stubborn characters full of love for the other - each making difficult decisions based on what they think to be right.

For once, vacillating inner dialogues that are appropriately reflective of the main characters as well - a much appreciated departure from that of other historical romance novels where characters bang on incessantly with inane thoughts (a pet peeve of mine).

I’ve walked in Tristan’s shoes myself and could certainly feel for him and his tormented plight. My heart also broke for Marion - a truly beautiful soul. I found the musings of the staff entertaining.

This book is part of the Marriage Mart Mayhem series - which I recommend, as each story has been uniquely different so far (I have 2 more to go!)

Whilst I prefer the narrator of book 1 & 2, this narrator did a good job also.

Highly recommend this tear-jerking story

There’s a lot of moping and self-pity, which isn’t entertaining. There’s a lot of “I’m not a real man if I have a disability” crap.

Boring and ableist
