Found this a great genteel story that is well written and narrated. Sometimes I found the narrator reading a bit quick but it was still ok. The story was full and detailed nicely, the characters full and lifelike. Very enjoyable.

Alison Larkin reads beautifully and brings the characters to life. The story is fairly improbable but interesting nonetheless because the characters are well drawn. Although set in an historic world it allows modern ideas and behaviors to intrude, reducing its credibility somewhat. It is an entertaining book.

I struggled a third of the way through this book, went back to read a few reviews, which weren’t convincing, I decided to keep going, I ended up enjoying the slow burn of relationship developing, I’m happy I persevered, was quite enjoyable in the end.

I read this book many years ago so it’s only right that I should revisit this tale but in talking book form this time. Anne Gracie’s novels, always character driven, lead the reader/listener into adventure. You can’t get any better than that. Now lead me to the next one. I have just finished listening to this title for a second time! It is indeed wonderful to listen to a series one after another, especially when Anne Gracieis the author!

I had this novel assigned for a University course and enjoyed it so much where I listened to it before, I am re-listening to it here on Audible. The narrator is fantastic at voice acting and I am really sucked into the story. Although it may be my personal preference as I find the British narrators appealing to listen to for audiobooks.

A well written, detailed story containing humour & likeable characters with strong female leads. Narrator manages to provide distinction between characters

I really struggled to get through the first couple of chapters as the narrator's voice really grated on me. The story was a bit far fetched, as in a lot of the historical novels & I don't think I will bother listening to another Anne Gracie book.
