Wonderful captivating story, what a tremendous amount of research has gone into the writing. I thoroughly enjoyed The romance and the historical memoirs of how things began.

A very moving story, well -written and captivating, as another reader said. It was founded on detailed research into nineteenth century medicine and healing, and was a very interesting telling of how it has evolved over time. The same professional rivalries hold sway now, with the patient caught in between. I did think the way physicians’ motivations were portrayed was a little skewed against them, but there was also some balance in showing the way greed and disregard for science featured among the apothecary trade as well. I felt there were too many quotes interrupting the story. While sometimes thought-provoking, just as often they did not add much to it. I would have preferred the author to decide on one quote at a time, rather than 2 or 3. The narration was really excellent, and added to my enjoyment.

This is a cleverly written story. The main character is wonderful, she goes through much and learns to adapt. The narrator did an excellent job, making it easy to distinguish between the characters.

Great story with depth and excellent narration
