Once upon a time, Maggie Cooper lived for adventure. Jumping out of planes was child’s play. Now she can’t even work up the nerve to ask out her coworker. For a bit of self-therapy, she begins to text her recently deceased mother’s phone - the only problem is that the number has been reassigned and for weeks she’s been unknowingly texting a stranger her deepest thoughts and feelings. There have also been some not-so-deep texts, like the ones about her appreciation for her coworker’s butt.

When Chase Beckett, the unsuspecting stranger who has more in common with Maggie than he’d like to admit, texts back, Maggie is beyond mortified. Loved Maggie and Chase! Such great characters navigating a challenging time, this story made me laugh and cry. Narration is easy to listen to. Really loved this book

Beautiful, fun story

I want to like it. The blurb had me intrigued. I was hoping for something sweet and funny. Quirkly. Maybe a touch of cringey. But several chapters in, and it is dragging. Some characters feel underdeveloped, and others overdeveloped, but in all the wrong ways.

The main character has lost weight because she's grieving? That sucks. For real. Been there. But please, show me, don't tell me. It could be effectively illustrated in a few punchy paragraphs; a chapter is unnecessary. The pacing just feels off. Sometimes more is less, and sometimes more is more.

Maybe it's me, and my attention span is too short or my standards are too high. Maybe if I stuck it out it would get better.

A sweet story which reminded me of the movie, Love Again (in that two people fall in love due to the main female character continuing to send texts to someone who’d passed away as something like therapy, and falls in love with the person who now owns the number). But this story hits deeper. The characters are easily relatable and likeable, and there were some tender moments as they both dealt with their grief. While there was a repetitive part (where the narrator had to repeat a phone number several times due to the characters sending texts back and forth), the rest of the story flowed well.

A great story which was easy to listen to. Likeable characters, great narration and heartwarming. The section with the same phone number continually being read out was so frustrating. I felt relief when it stopped and the story continued.

If you like slow burn, and lots of whinging, go for it. DNF. Repeating phone numbers for a good 5mins is not conducive to enjoyment.
