Publisher's Summary

The 9 Types of Leadership demonstrates how to solve people problems on the job in a quick, efficient, and satisfying way through understanding personality patterns and motivations. In the past few years, mindfulness and other approaches to self-awareness have begun to transform the American workplace. But while it is increasingly widely accepted in the business world that the most direct route to success lies in adopting practices that actively promote a leader's self-awareness, social skill, and emotional intelligence, the best and most efficient path to developing a more conscious workforce often remains unclear.

The 9 Types of Leadership provides a pathway to greater self-awareness and social skillfulness. It will help you orient yourself when you get caught up in people problems that you don't know how to work your way out of.

By providing extremely detailed and accurate descriptions of nine recognizable personalities, The 9 Types of Leadership is an unmatched tool for business people to use to decode the mysteries involved in understanding why people do what they do, why we have conflicts with some people but not others, and how we can become aware of our blind spots. Most importantly, it can help leaders know themselves in a deeper way so they can more effectively lead others.

Love this book!

I love this book! This has helped me understand myself better and my coworkers, family as friends. For anyone thinking they are not the leading type should read this and truly see what type they are and to reflect on their weaknesses and to grow as a leader. I liked this book so much I wrote a paper in one of my MBA courses about this topic and integrated this book.

This is a book on enneagrams

I thought this always a book on leadership, but after an hour it is clear that this is a book about enneagrams. So far it is not written with clarity and to me was misrepresented in the description. Maybe I’ll go back to this after researching more about enneagrams.

Excellent Deep Dive

Dr. Chestnut is my favorite Enneagram scholar. I’ve found a great deal of personal enrichment from learning about the model and reading Dr. Chestnut’s books have been a big part of it- she is unparalleled in expanding the ideas around instinctual variants.

I wouldn’t recommend this book as a jumping off point. It would help to already be familiar with the Enneagram system. For those who are already a bit knowledgeable about their type, this book is a very rewarding listen.

Painful read

Struggled to finish. Author repeatedly comparing her product to other notables instead of letting her research and storyline stand on its own.

Great book, annoying narrator

Great book, but the narrator has a grating voice that made me feel like a kid in the principal’s office. Something about her tone of voice made me wonder why she was angry at the people who just want to listen to a good book instead of reading it.

Great for leaders

This book was helpful for me as a leader to better understand how to work with my team, how they process things given their enneagram number, and what helps motivate them in their work. The book is not robotic but the narrator’s voice inflections helped keep it interesting.
