New York Times best seller

The unapologetic, laugh-your-ass-off military memoir both vets and civilians have been waiting for, from a five-tour Army Ranger turned YouTube phenomenon and zealous advocate for veterans

Members of the military’s special operations branches share a closely guarded secret: They love their jobs. They relish the opportunity to fight. They are thankful for it, even, and hopeful that maybe, possibly, they’ll also get to kill a bunch of bad guys while they’re at it. You don’t necessarily need to thank them for their service - the pleasure is all theirs.

In this hilarious and personal memoir, listeners ride shotgun alongside former Army Ranger and private military contractor and current social media phenomenon Mat Best, into the action and its aftermath, both abroad and at home. From surviving a skin infection in the swampy armpit of America (aka Columbus, Georgia) to kicking down doors on the outskirts of Ramadi, from blowing up a truck full of enemy combatants to witnessing the effects of a suicide bombing right in front of your face, Thank You for My Service gives listeners who love America and love the good guys fresh insight into what it’s really like inside the minds of the men and women on the front lines.

It’s also a sobering yet steadying glimpse at life for veterans after the fighting stops, when the enemy becomes self-doubt or despair and you begin to wonder why anyone should be thanking you for anything, least of all your service. How do you keep going when something you love turns you into somebody you hate? For veterans and their friends and families, Thank You for My Service will offer comfort in the form of a million laughs and counsel as a blueprint for what to do after the war ends and the real fight begins.

And for civilians, this is the insider account of military life you won’t find anywhere else, told with equal amounts of heart and balls. It’s Deadpool meets Captain America, except one went to business school and one went to therapy, and it’s anyone’s guess which is which.

DO NOT buy this book!

Ahh......Now that I have you attention with my clickbaity kind of title I’ll clarify.
Only buy this book in Audiobook form, why? Because even though I will most definitely buy a hard copy of the book just to own it, reading the page would not have given me the laughs that this audio has, just by hearing Mat narrate it with his timing and wit.
If you’ve ever seen Mat on YouTube whether it be his own channel, ART 15 clothing or Black Rifle Coffee ads then you know his humor is top notch, he’s a full blooded American Patriot that, like me and many other former military has a certain dislike for the PC crowd that has sprouted up around the western world and his, our, comedy and thought processes show that.
I’d also say that if you’re squeamish by the stories of war or of the facts of life in general then you should totally buy this book too and harden up.
All in all if you want an awesome book full of life lessons, military and war stories as well as a healthy dose of humor then don’t wait, click on the buy button and enjoy.

This book doesn't suck!

I got a great deal more out of this book than I thought I would. It will make you laugh (mainly dudes). It may make you cry (mainly girls). It will make you hurl (mainly those who have never seen a dead body).

Hilarious, so happy it was narrated by Mat Best himself

Following Mat’s work online for a while now I had I high expectations for this book based off his other content. It exceeded all expectations, it discusses difficult topics in a light hearted way but puts in so many personal funny stories. I love what he does for the veteran community.

Not what I was expecting!

This audiobook is the ultimate journey of unbridled narcissism. This is the type of genre I listen to but this was all over the place. It didn't flow and many things in this book I wondered why he even put them in there other than filling his ego. There were chapters where you wanted another hour of detail then it would be followed up by a chapter of complete nonsense. I really enjoy his youtube channel so I thought this would dovetail perfectly. I was very wrong!

He lost my respect. Couldn’t finish it.

I love special forces books that inspire and intrigue me. I have bought Black Rifle Coffee and have enjoyed their crazy
videos, BUT the continuous foul language and infantile potty humor with disrespect to women and others that pervades this book found me losing respect for this guy. My husband and I couldn’t finish the last hour. We gave up on hoping that he would redeem himself. I respect his service, and, perhaps his honesty, but not his character.

If Deadpool was a ranger...with less cancer

One of the best fusions of military, dark humor, and life lessons I've read. extremely easy to get through with great narrative performance by Mat Best himself.

Made me long for the glory of combat again....

It’s a good read, Mat does a good job keeping to his points in his story telling for his first time out. Made me laugh but most importantly it made me long for the days of combat.

As a former combat veterans myself, his stories hit home so well that for the longest time I thought I had a really sick sense of humor....nope, all combat vets have the same sick sense of humor!

I miss the camaraderie of my fellow brothers in arms. I miss the humor, I miss the pain and suffering we all went through as it brought us closer than and blood relative I’ve ever had.

Something I’ve tried to rekindle in my civilian life but unfortunately have to come to realize that bond cannot be formed out here.

It’s only in the crucible of pain and combat can that kind of bond be formed between men. Where they know I will always have their 6 and they will always have mine.

It’s what I miss most about my days serving my country.

Mat does an outstanding job explaining that bond and how it’s formed.

I recommend this read to any wife or sibling of a combat veteran if they want to understand their husband or brother and what he’s all about. Mat tells it like it is. The good and the bad.

Most disappointing to say the least

The book should’ve been named my life as a womanizer.

I guess when I read a book about a person in the service I expect to hear much more about their military life some of the operations they went on not revealing classified information. Talking about their training.

This book seem to be centered around the author sex life. Coming back from Ranger training I am sure that the ladies were very impressed with him but listening to the graphic details of the number of women that he slept with in the first week cleaning up the backseat of his father’s car because of bodily fluid discharges and use in the garage with the garage door for a place to be intimate with.

Starting to get old very fast but that seem to be the theme of the book how good looking was and hot women just fell over him and fell into bed with him. And I say this in most positive way I hope that him getting married settles his hormones down and keeps his wife very satisfied and happy and he doesn’t have a need to keep score sheet.

So it was a very disappointing book in the sense that it was portrayed to be someone and their military life the only ones thanking him for his service Would have to be women to very sadly stated that way. Waste of time to listen to but we all have free right to be stupid at least once or twice I’ll never get these 3 1/2 or four hours back

Lots of sex with a little bit of war

Disappointed. Mostly covers the author's sexual adventures, interrupted with brief discussions of GWOT experience.

I laughed, I cried, I touched myself.

Actually had my attention the whole time. What started as wanting to listen to one chapter turned to two then before I knew it it was 4am and on chapter 14. Being a vet I found the way dark humor balanced the more dark aspects of war. Keep up the amazing work Mat.

A load of Dead pool and bullsh!t

one of the worst books I've ever read or listen to don't waste your money on such a short book of BS. The author tries to be funny in many places where is actually just lame.

This book is a complete waste of money and you will not get anything out of it. Really lacks description on some of the stories is just over all a terrible listen. Please don't waste your money or time on this book.
