Publisher's Summary

Lily: To escape my uncle - one of New York's most dangerous mob bosses - I had to create a whole new life. I became an expert forger, fled to Texas, and never let anyone get close to me again. I didn't figure on having my life saved by a huge, muscled cowboy. He's arrogant, he's stubborn, and he's the local stud, so why is he interested in a curvy girl like me? And if he annoys me so much, why can't I stop fantasizing about him?

Bull: As soon as I saw her, I knew I had to have her. Lily had curves that didn't quit and too many goddamn secrets. Well, I was going to uncover every inch of her....

Contains mature themes.

Some suspense & some laughs

I enjoyed my first Helena Newbury audiobook. Loved the narration by Christian Fox especially! His self deprecating humor was spot on! I also enjoyed hearing Lucy Rivers. I think I enjoyed hearing the book through their performances rather than reading it, as the plot was good but not great. Lily is a mafia princess hiding out in Texas after her uncle murderer her best friend. Bull is a cowboy and radio star. The meet cute was fun when Bull saved Lily from an actual bull at the rodeo. Bull is a horn dog but is wildly attracted to her curves. Lily is put off by the skinny girls who chase Bull but eventually starts to see him. However, she never trusts him enough to share her truths and this eventually gets her exposed to the FBI and her location revealed to her uncle’s henchmen. Bull falls in love for the first time and continues to pursue and try to protect Lily. I don’t want to give away any spoilers but there’s an HEA, no cheating. I had some good chuckles esp the Ferris wheel ride and the carnival. One of the carnival foods was deep fried ice tea on a stick! I’m from Texas and this cracked me up!

cute, sexy, eye roll

loved the background and setup. some of the cliches were absolutely eye roll worthy. I think I enjoy this writer for her ability to put fantasy into narrative.

Good escape-challenging heroine

I love Helena Newbury she is clearly the master of writing in this genre, especially with feminist leads. But I struggled with the main character’s approach to her weight, if you have any body dysmorphia issues this book is not for you. The description of body image is hard to hear and in not resolved by character development. It was very distracting and painful.

Can't even finish this book!

This sounded like an interesting story line. But, unfortunately the writing was bad. The characters are a joke. And the performance was down right offering. Between the author's horrible details and the performer's hopefully forgettable read.. well let me sum up..."cute but fat city girl on the run from the Mafia doesn't feel good enough for cute womanizing Texas cowboy who talks like an uneducated idiot". I'm offended for women, Southerners, Texans, and even the Mafia at this point!

Narrator

I wish the male could have narrated the whole book. The female narrator and her attempt at a country “twang” made me hate this book. It had potential otherwise.

Romance with a tad of mystery

I’ve recently discovered Helena Newbury. I love her plots, which are more romantic action than my normal read. I don’t enjoy the short chapters and it doesn’t always make sense to me why it doesn’t continue. Lucy Rivers has a wonderful female voice, I do not like her male voices very much. Christian Fox is pleasant to listen to. Story: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Characters: ❤️❤️❤️❤️ Flow: 👍🏼👍🏼 Writing and editing: 🖊🖊🖊 Heat: 🌶

"You know why they call me Bull?"

Re-Review after having to transfer account: This story had a lot of giggle worthy moments. All of Bull's personality was beguiling. Lily's self doubt and inner struggles were irritating at times but definitely gave insight to her behavior. I wasn't a fan of Lucy's voice for Bull but otherwise loved the performance. Christian performed excellently and oozed Bull's personality with ease. I also loved the little crossover from Lying and Kissing and Lily's response to Arianna. Overall a fun and steamy story.

hammy but funny

all very cliché, with a few funny touches. enjoyable if you are happy with the standard alpha male story.
