About this listen

Only once in my life have I lost my words at the sight of perfection - on a rainy autumn morning when I first met James Hunter. Or rather, when I literally ran into him. I had never seen anyone so handsome in my entire life. The stubble along his jaw line. The way he caught me in his strong arms. The way he stared at me so intently with his dark brown eyes that swirled with secrets.

I felt it in a rush. That I wanted him. That I needed him in my life. I’m not naïve. I could tell in two seconds that he was out of my league. And not just because it looked like he had stepped out of the pages of a magazine. Well, that and the fact that he’s my professor.

Trust me, I know I need to forget about him. But how could I possibly when every time I see him in class it feels like he’s daring me to cross the line?

*I don’t know how much longer I can resist the temptation.*

Temptation by Ivy Smoak, narrated by Meghan Crawford, is a well-produced audiobook with clear narration and an accessible writing style, though the story itself felt repetitive and incomplete by the end.

The plot follows Penny, a college student managing academic responsibilities alongside complicated personal relationships. After meeting James, a man she initially believes to be a stranger, she later discovers he is her professor, which significantly alters their dynamic. At the same time, Penny is navigating uncertainty involving Tyler, a fellow student whose intentions become unclear after a misunderstanding. These intersecting storylines create tension, but much of the conflict repeats similar beats without substantial progression.

Penny is written as young and uncertain, and while this may be intentional, her indecision can be frustrating. Her actions are not malicious, but they do impact others around her. James fits a familiar romance archetype and is central to the story, though he remains emotionally reserved, which limited my ability to fully engage with his character.

Meghan Crawford’s narration is consistent and easy to follow. Her pacing and clarity support the story well, making the audiobook accessible and straightforward to listen to. The transitions between scenes are smooth, and the narration helps maintain continuity throughout the book.

the sex is hot here but I just wasn't a fan of Penny. I guess being older than 40 I was finding her behaviour very high school, but it does show that the character is very young and naive. She is only in college and doesn't have much experience with men or even boys which is an accurate portrayal of her character but I would then find it very difficult to believe that James would think she was older. I don't know many guys of his age that would put up with her, a guy who clearly married young and almost divorced at 27 would not be bothering with a serious relationship with a teenager and though she might not look 19 her behaviour actually screamed 16 to me. maybe I'm just too old for this book because I also don't like controlling men. 5 stars for the hit sex though.
