 अलेक्झांडर ग्रॅहॅम बेल (३ मार्च १८४७, २ ऑगस्ट १९२२) यांचे सगळ्यात महत्त्वाचे संशोधन म्हणजे दूरध्वनी. दूर अंतरावर असलेल्या आपल्या प्रिय व्यक्तीचा आवाज काही सेकंदात आपल्यापर्यंत पोहोचविणारे यंत्र असावे असे वाटत असल्याने बेल यांनी दूरध्वनी यंत्राचा शोध लावला.१८८५ मध्ये ते अमेेेरिकन टेलिफोन कम्पनीचे सह-संस्थापक सुद्धा होते.बेल यांनी माणसाच्या स्वरयंत्राचा आणि कानाचा अभ्यास करून पहिले दूरध्वनी यंत्र तयार केले. दि. २ जून १८७५ या दिवशी आपले सहकारी वॉटसन यांच्यासह काम करीत असतांना दुसऱ्या खोलीतील वॉटसन यांच्या हाताच्या धक्क्याने ट्रान्समीटर थरथरला, तो लहानसा आवाजही बेल यांना ऐकू आला. मग बेल यांनी आपल्या ट्रान्समीटरचा उपयोग करून सहकारी वॉटसन यांना आपल्या खोलीत येण्याविषयी सांगितले. बेल यांचा तो संदेश सहकारी वॉटसन यांनी ऐकून तसा प्रतिसाद दिल्यावर संदेशाची देवाणघेवाण झाल्याबद्दल दोघांची खात्रीच पटली. बेल आणि वॉटसन यांनी या यंत्रावर आणखी प्रयोग करून दि. १५-०२-१८७६ या दिवशी आपल्या यंत्राचे पेटंट घेण्यासाठी अर्ज दाखल केला. तेव्हा पेटंट कार्यालयातच बेल यांना समजले की अशाच प्रकारच्या प्रयोगासाठी आणखी चार अर्ज पेटंट कार्यालयात पडून होते. हे पेटंट युद्ध बराच काळ सुरू होते, शेवटी बेल यांना दूरध्वनी यंत्राचे पेटंट मिळाले.©2020 Storyside IN (P)2020 Storyside IN Science
