Editorial reviews

In Tanglewood Tales, Nathaniel Hawthorne has rewritten many Greek myths for children. The work of Hawthorne, famed author of The Scarlet Letter, is always a delight for fans of New England's history or dark romanticism. Although Walter Zimmerman's pitch may seem at times monotone, his deliberate pacing and clear diction make these stories easy to follow. His performance is in keeping with Hawthorne's dark and serious tone. These legends originally targeted children, but today they will appeal most to adult Hawthorne fans, too.

Critic Reviews

"A collection of Hawthorne's children's stories of fantasy and mythology, all full of heroes and heroines, adventure and danger. Zimmerman is superb in his vocal characterizations of the material that lends itself easily to the aural medium, providing enjoyable listening." ( Booklist)
