Senior Constable Jacob Porter loves his life in the small town of Tallowwood in northern New South Wales. He runs summer camps for the local Indigenous kids, plays rugby with his mates, has a close family, and he's the local LGBTQIA+ Liaison and the Indigenous Liaison Officer.

When human remains are found in the camping grounds at Tallowwood Reserve, Jake's new case turns out to be linked to August's cold cases, and Jake agrees they're not suicides at all. With Jacob now firmly in August's corner, they face one hurdle after another. Even when more remains are found, they can't seem to gain ground. But when the body of a fellow police officer turns up under the same MO, it can't be ignored anymore.

August and Jake must trace the untraceable before the killer takes his next victim or before he stops one of them, permanently.

Not only was this story filled with twists and turns in the murder investigation, but it was so good to have a decent Australian themed love story as well. Really enjoyed every moment and wish there was a follow on!

A deeply engaging story with all the feels and drama! NR Walker has a gift for memorable characters and August and Jake are my newest friends! The detail and tension she weaves into this tale is impressive. I love this book - it has already become a personal favourite!

Not usually into crime thrillers but found this to be enthralling, the characters true to life and the performances by the narrator authentic. Note that some other reviewers were disappointed with the lack of adult themes but it was a pleasant surprise for this reader and the lack of those themes did not detract from the listening experience .

Just brilliant! Totally engrossed in the storytelling and the storyteller. Wonderful narration. A horrific story, but in the telling so much is revealed and explored.

What an amazing book! I loved all the mystery and work around the investigation. August is a deep man, focus on is job and hurt from is past. He makes such a good team with Jacob. They are good balance characters. Jacod is open minded and smart, goes for what he wants too.
It's a bit different style from what we are used to with N. R. WALKER but it's a success for me.
Antony Ferguson is also really good in the narration of this book, he takes us with him in the story. I found him easy to follow even if English is not my first language.
