About this listen
1. His crush has no idea.
2. Noah only knows him as his gaming avatar.
3. There's zero chance they'll ever meet in real life.
So, when Noah sees an opportunity to secretly meet his crush, he takes it.
Even though he'll have to join the cast of a local production of Chicago with his self-obsessed mother. Even though he'll need to lie to his best (and only) friend. And even though he'll have to sing and dance in front of actual people.
Because love is worth the risk. And, really, what could possibly go wrong?
Matthew Backer is a tremendous narrator. He voices all these complex characters beautifully which is truly joyful.
Awkward and brilliant

I mentioned that the story was stressful. I started out laughing out loud and then moved to being aware of the impending consequences of decisions made by the characters as the story continued which added greatly to my stress levels. I was rooting for them and hoping for the happy ending, but also aware that it could all go south at any moment.
Matthew's reading was flawless. He gave life to each and every character with great sensitivity, and of course great Aussie charm. A narrative tour-de-force.
I recommend this to friends in other parts of the world as a way to encounter down-under humour which helps to explain our lack of formality and laid back attitudes. I have read reviews where some have said that the characters were not very nice, but I think this might be a misunderstanding of the use of sarcasm as a humorous device.
I highly recommend this!!
Heartwarming, hilarious, stressful - it's complex!
