About this listen

Lisa Edwards, top London magazine editor, has been fantasizing about promotion to New York. Instead, she's asked to launch a new women's magazine in Dublin. She thinks nothing could be worse - until she meets her new staff. They're friendly, helpful, and enthusiastic - in other words, they wouldn't last two minutes in London!

As Lisa struggles to find her feet in this alien world of no back-stabbing or bitchiness, her neurotic assistant, Ashling, is also in trouble. She's just too nice for journalism, and it shows. Who better to help them both than their handsome-but-hassled boss, Jack Devine? Always allowing for the fact that his moodiness could give Heathcliff a run for his money, of course.

Would have preferred a younger voice. I just didn’t feel that Ashling, Lisa, Clodah or really any of the women the younger women that is, were realistic. I’ve just read Marian Keyes‘s latest book And yes Marion read it herself but it was such a soft lovely accent and much more realistic of Dublin.

The many very interesting stories and how they intertwined. It was a really Master full telling.

Excellent story with really interesting complex characters. Serious themes but loads of hilarious moments. At the risk of sounding prudish i found some of the sex scenes a bit over the top. But everything else was fine. Great reading by Juanita as usual.

Fantastic characters great story

As usual I love the humour and the characters that Marian brings to life. I just didn’t like the narrator I found the accents and tones harsh and not fitting the characters. This is first book of Marians that I haven’t believed the accents.

Great story

How the narrator got the job to read this book is beyond me. I would’ve stopped listening the second I heard the shocking accents, but I’d paid for the book so had to persevere. The story was fine.

Dreadful Irish accents

The story was good it took a while to get use to the narrator Irish voices. Prefer the original authors voices best. Great story 4/5 stars.

Overall a lovely book and story

I love Marian‘s books and they are often brought alive by wonderful Irish readers including the author herself.
This narrator must have a prejudice against Irish people though, it’s the only explanation I can come up with for the ridiculous, harsh and hillbilly type of voices she put on for the characters, except for Lisa and Oliver who were British.
It is difficult to judge whether this book was of the same calibre as Marion‘s other stories because the narration made everyone so unlikable. Marion’s characters are usually so relatable and her stories are humerous, sincere and heartfelt. If this is your first Marion Keyes book, don‘t let the narration put you off trying another one of her titles!

Story hidden behind awful narration

I’ve listened to a lot of Marian Keyes books and love them. This one was good but I really struggled with the narration. It was superb for the English characters but as it was set in Ireland with majority of Irish characters, why wouldn’t you have someone with an Irish accent reading it like the other books. It wasn’t my favourite book of hers but that maybe because of the narrator doing Irish accents which some really grated on me.

Struggled with the Narration
