Tune in for Starmaker, the most watched reality TV show in the world. The rules are simple; young women from all over the globe compete to join an all-singing, all-dancing pop group. If you win, a life of luxury awaits . . . But there’s a catch. Eliminated contestants are literally eliminated.
Taryn Beck and the contestants soon realise that reality TV is far from real. They are pitted against each other in cruel challenges and Taryn is determined to expose the brutal regime and destroy Starmaker from the inside.

If reality TV, dystopian stakes, and killer social commentary sound like your thing, Survival Show by Juno Dawson is worth hitting play on. Young women compete for a place in a global pop group, and those eliminated are literally eliminated. Brutal, brilliant premise.
This audiobook shines because it fully commits to the concept. The songs woven through the story were so fun and added huge entertainment value. They made the listening experience feel dynamic and immersive rather than just narrated text.
Hannah Berchtold was excellent. For a solo narrator, she managed distinct voices with ease, handled accents well, delivered strong emotional scenes, and absolutely nailed the singing. A genuinely engaging performance from start to finish.
Story-wise, there is heartbreak, friendship, empowerment, and plenty of tension. Taryn and the girls brought warmth and emotional depth to the darker moments.
My only wish is that the concept had been aged up with older contestants and messier adult dynamics, because I would have devoured that version. Even so, this was bold, clever, and very hard to pause.
