About this listen

From USA Today bestselling author Devney Perry comes a sweeping Western romance about undeniable attraction, unforeseen circumstances, and seemingly unbeatable odds.

My first day in Montana, I got into a tug-of-war over a grocery store shopping cart. The most handsome man I’d ever seen broke up the scuffle before he asked me on a date. I was seconds away from accepting but then he told me his name.

As an owner of the Haven River Ranch, Jax Haven wasn’t my boss. But he wasn’t not my boss either.

Obviously, my only option was to turn him down, scurry away, then pretend like he was a stranger on my first day of work. And obviously, I could never, ever admit that he was my secret crush.

For as hard as I work at my job, I work twice as hard to pretend Jax doesn’t exist. I don’t let myself think about his dazzling eyes or charming smile. I refuse to acknowledge how good he looks in a pair of faded Wrangler jeans. And as tempting as he is in a cowboy hat, Jax is a distraction I cannot afford.

Everything was going according to plan until the annual holiday party. Until I drank one too many flutes of champagne and let him sweep me off my feet. After a night in his bed, there was no more ignoring Jax Haven. Not when I’m pregnant with his baby.

Little disappointed with this one. It was a very slow burn but the annoying type. Nothing wowed me about the story and it was predictable from the start. Loved the meet-cute between Jax and Sasha but there wasn't that much chemistry. I found it hard to connect with Sacha and her insufferable behaviour. Jax was perfect though - total green flag. The jumps in time didn't make it flow smoothly. Devney has said there are no more books in this series but I would love a Emerson book.

I really did not gel with Sasha, she was not a very likeable character. It took nearly the whole book for her secret to come out, all the while being awful to Jax. There were many time jumps, which I personally dislike and made the stories flow disrupted. The narrators were good though.

good storyline mediocre execution. this book deals with complex feelings that aren't quite captured right. for this book less would have been more. instead there's characters dealing with consequences of family/friends dv, juvenile delinquency, infidelity, extreme unforgiveness and family disfunction. to top it off the hero is a "past" manslut, the heroine has over the top insecurities and neither come across well on paper. either the author doesn't have the life experience to write this or perhaps they were pushed to publish too soon. with a less complex storyline I think this author would have pulled off a much better book

I am obsessed. If there were 100 stars, that’s what I would give this book. LOVED IT. I need more.

Top Tier Cowboy Romance

jax and sasha's story is the kind of romance that pulls you in completely, sasha’s went from guarded independence to trusting love with jax, who patiently supports her without pushing was absolutely beautiful. jax’s quiet strength reassures sasha, the story’s warm, layered romance and without so much healing from both the mc's. despite sasha’s attempts to keep her distance, jax never wavers, showing up for her in every way. it’s a bit of a rollercoaster, but their happy ever after is so worth it! i just found the secrets a bit annoy at times, i just wanted the connection to move a bit faster and the pregnancy to not be such a secret either.

Jax the man you are

Devney does it again! Jax Haven may just be my favourite Haven man. The narration was excellent, I devoured this book. Loved that the audio was included on KU. I’ll keep listening to this series. I’ve loved every minute so far. Both Crossroads & Sunlight had a layer of intrigue and mystery which I loved. The accidental pregnancy was brilliant and the banter between the MCs was great. Jax had me kicking my legs like a giddy schoolgirl

Absolutely adored this from start to finish!
The narration was impeccable. Their tone, inflection, the pacing and the SPICE was all executed flawlessly.
I am notoriously not one for accidental pregnancy (or pregnancy in my books in general), but this was done so delicately, thoughtfully and in a way that made me actually SWOON (shock horror for me).
The plot and the mystery behind Sasha’s secret was done so well and really pulled on the heart strings - I don’t want to give too much away but I love how full circle this was all excited. and omg NO THIRD ACT BREAKUP!! Also Jax… he will be the new love of your life, promise
