Publisher's Summary

Will Darling is all right. His business is doing well, and so is his illicit relationship with Kim Secretan - disgraced aristocrat, ex-spy, amateur book-dealer. It's starting to feel like he's got his life under control.

And then a brutal murder in a gentleman's club plunges them back into the shadow world of crime, deception, and the power of privilege. Worse, it brings them up against Kim's noble, hostile family, and his upper-class life where Will can never belong.

With old and new enemies against them, and secrets on every side, Will and Kim have to fight for each other harder than ever - or be torn apart for good.

Contains mature themes.

10/10

One of the few audiobooks I constantly go back and listen again. This series is the best. The narrator is outstanding. I’ve listened to a few more by him but the quality of the books he read were never as excellent as this series.

PERFECT conclusion to the series!!!

The best in the series and an all-star, absolutely perfect conclusion! After reading this book, the whole series became not just my favorite by KJ Charles, but my favorite in the genre. If you're unsure about starting the series, this book alone makes reading the first two absolutely worth it. If you're reading reviews because you're concerned about Kim in particular (the spymaster love interest who lies to Will), have no fear: these concerns are addressed seriously, smarty, and fully throughout book two and three. You will go from hating Kim in book one to outright loving him in book three, and it will be EARNED! As always, KJ Charles knows how to write believable people, engaging stories, and settings that transport you into the world.

Kim and Will both go through tremendous growth, and Kim's growth in particular is beautiful and well-earned. There are so many tender scenes throughout the book that I highlighted something nearly every other page. It felt like the entire thing was an ode to vulnerability in love and finding a Happily Ever After. My heart was mush by the end!

The mystery, action, and conflict of this book are also perhaps the best of the trilogy! Meeting Kim's family felt like a natural, necessary progression of the story, and the way that goes down does not disappoint! You'll want to shout at them and see them hurt, and Will just might channel all that for us readers.

After reading this, I may or may not have made Sidecars for the first time in my life. (I see why Kim and Phoebe like them.)

Cornell Collins's performance is perfect as always.

Great finish to a great series! This last book really ties up all the loose ends and brought around a satisfying ending. I will miss these characters!

As always a cut above the rest

Narration captured the characters and story beautifully. I’m so sad to see this series end. I loved watching the story unfold and Kims character (especially) grow. Kj Charles style is among my favorites of all the HR authors. Her imagery is vivid and beautiful with just the right word choice every time. She brings all the magic and weaves it into an unforgettable tale.

A Lovely Finale (maybe!) to a lovely series

I adored these characters throughout the entire trilogy. Even when I wanted to scream in frustration at the protagonists half the time, haha! I will definitely be rereading this whole series for weeks.

Another amazing work by KJ Charles and I can't recommend it enough!

Stellar End to A Wonderful Trilogy

KJ Charles does it again with another exciting thriller involving Will Darling and Lord Arthur. I am amazed at the author's imagination and ability to create such wonderful characters while combining historical context and social commentary. Her work is genius. I only wonder how she can write gay male love scenes so well as a woman. But I am certainly not complaining!

Sad to see it end!

I really enjoyed this trilogy. KJ Charles writes historical mm like no other. She makes me feel like I'm right there in the story with Kit and Will.
This story was full of the mystery and intrigue I've come to expect in this series, and we finally get some answers and resolution.
Family is also at the forefront, with Kit's awful father being awful.
Will and Kit's relationship is solidified- I just love them.

Cornell Collins is perfection as usual!

An amazing conclusion

This review contains spoilers!

Love, love, LOVE! I have read and enjoyed ten KJ Charles books, and this series - and this book - is my favorite.

The love confessions absolutely slayed me. Kim, for all of his subtleties and stormy past and hard armor, was wonderfully transparent with the dedication in the book; I knew then that it was love, even as Will (wonderful, traumatized, steadfast, obstinate) didn’t or wouldn’t see it for what it was. And when Kim actually said the words - oh, that was delicious.

Even more delicious still … when Will had to take time to process how he felt, confront what mental barriers were stopping him from accepting Kim’s love, have really tough conversations with himself and his partner, rely on his friends and ultimately find his own way to express his feelings!!! Communication and working through mental health is so sexy!!!!!!! And Kim, backing off immediately to give room for that mental work to happen, accepting Will was moving at a different pace, still acknowledging his own feelings without putting pressure on Will to do the same before he had the language and comfort to do so. It was like watching two real people work through something big and precious together, and I adored how it showed their individual growth and how they made one another better.

Also, all the ridiculous things Kim and Will are willing to do for one another … it’s a treat. I was so delighted by every development between them all series long.

I also appreciated the acknowledgement of Will’s PTSD. The first two books certainly demonstrated he was suffering, but this book was even more demonstrative in a way that capitalized naturally onto the foundation the series had built. The detail about Will experiencing phantom smells of mud, gas and blood was chilling, and I noticed throughout the series how his opponents were quickly labeled “the enemy” in a touch of dehumanization that was really explored in the final book.

I literally fist pumped for Phoebe and Maisie. Called it, am delighted about it, want another three books about them being deliciously queer and running the fashion scene in Paris. I also loved how Maisie’s intelligence - emotional and logical - were given such a lovely spotlight here. Her reflections on fitting into boxes and how doing the unexpected is both challenging and freeing was lovely.

And the MYSTERY. Chingford and Lord Flitby were the actual worst, and though I never really believed Chingford was the murderer, I was kept guessing about literally everything else. At one point, I thought we must be getting to the climax of the story and then realized we were only halfway through! There was a moment of “oh wow, something else?!” towards the second-to-last twist, but I was immediately drawn back into the plot and decided I didn’t give a darn anyways.

As always, this narrator is one of the best and gave a beautiful performance.

I’m so glad I read this, and so sad there aren’t any more books to read in the series!

Nothing Subtle here

Well narrated. Another trip round the block, meeting some of the usual characters, good, bad or indifferent. Usual content, done in the usual way.

The research errors are grating: Post Codes did not come into use in England until the 1970s, and for sure a lowly employee would not have a personal private telephone at his room let alone home until at least 1978 (prior to that even posh houses shared a party line). Call tracing was not possible until the 1960s. Calls from a public telephone box were still connected by a live operator until early 1970s.

OK

Fun book, excellently read

The story is fun and I am hoping for more volumes in the Will and Kim saga, but Cornell Collins deserves a shout out as one of the very very very best performers I have ever heard. He makes the story, the characters and especially the dialogues come to a very believable and entertaining life.

I loved this trilogy

Cornel Collins magically transforms these books into what feels like a Gill cast dramatisation. The combination of KJ Charles and this narrator is pure joy. I was bereft when I reached the end

Nice

I liked the characters and the plot but would have liked more about the relationship.
The recording, as in the other books, often had a low rumble in the background.

I am utterly obsessed with the Will Darling Adventures.

I love all three books in this series and Collins’ reading of them so much. I’ve easily listened to each three times now. Collins reads well, despite how laughably terrible his regional accents are. A good & fitting ending to a brilliant, thoroughly enjoyable trilogy.
