Die Gründungszeit der heutigen Großstadt geht zurück ins Jahr 945. Herzog Liudolf von Schwaben errichtete am Neckar ein Pferdegestüt, den Stutengarten, von dessen Name sichoffenbar auch das heutige Stuttgart ableitet. Im Laufe der Zeit erblühte der Stutengarten und gedieh seinem Besitzer, dem Herzog Luitolf von Schwaben, zu großem Vorteil. 1219ernannte Hermann V. von Baden den damals noch überschaulichen Ort zur Stadt.
1871 hatte Stuttgart gerade einmal 91.000 Einwohner. Seinen wirtschaftlichen Aufschwungbekam das moderne Stuttgart vor allem durch Gottlieb Daimler (1834-1900), dessen Wirken bis zum heutigen Tage nicht vergessen ist und Stuttgart zu einer der größten Städte Deutschlands heranwachsen ließ.
