Kommissar Léon Duval ist reif für die Insel. Ein Matrose wird auf einer Yacht im Hafen der Ferieninsel Sainte Marguerite tot aufgefunden. Kommissar Duval und sein Team beginnen mit den Ermittlungen. Als jedoch - aufgrund der Herbststürme - der Fährverkehr zwischen Cannes und der Insel eingestellt wird, bleibt Duval allein zurück.
Zumindest für sein leibliches Wohl ist dank der hervorragenden Köchin im Inselrestaurant bestens gesorgt. Doch ansonsten wird nicht nur das Wetter immer stürmischer, auch der Mordfall gibt immer mehr Rätsel auf. Als dann auch noch eine zweite Leiche gefunden wird, überschlagen sich die Ereignisse.
