About this listen

You’ll want to stay. Until you can’t leave…

A group of strangers arrive on a beautiful but remote island, ready for the challenge of a lifetime: to live there for one year, without contact with the outside world.

But twelve months later, on the day when the boat is due to return for them, no one arrives.

Eight people set foot on the island. How many will make it off alive?

A totally addictive psychological thriller with twists and turns you just won’t see coming. Fans of The Hunting Party, The Castaways and The Sanatorium will be totally gripped from the very start until the final, breath-taking conclusion.

The narrator was perfect, and the story was awfully believable. This is basically a social experiment- like the series ‘alone’ but focused on community challenges, and the pecking order. I loved it! The lead character is great. I would hope I was as resilient as her in that situation. Great read.

Would you follow the crowd or stand alone?

Stranded had great potential and in places, almost delivered. This is not to say I didn't enjoy the book - I did find it compelling. However the narrator's delivery felt quite stilted. At first I thought this was just her style but later on I think it was her way of trying to portray the first person protagonist's personality. I'm not sure her approach was successful.
My other critique of the book relates to whether it was realistic enough. I can't say more without disclosing essential plot lines. But suffice it to say I didn't find it a very likely story. I will read another of Sarah Goodwin's books as overall I was entertained by this one.

Interesting but flawed

Far too long and lots of unpleasant characters I didn’t really enjoy it. Wished they had got rescued so the story could end.

Annoying

A great premise, but a bit slow, both the pace of story and the narration.

Intriguing

I kept waiting for something to happen other than descriptions of people gathering mushrooms but it just went on, and on, and on, and on. By three quarters of the way through the story, I had lost all interest in the characters and the plot and I just couldn't go through to the end. The story concept was awesome but the thrill was missing.

Good narrator though.
