Summary

THE HEART-POUNDING SEQUEL TO THE NEW YORK TIMES AND SUNDAY TIMES BESTSELLER

Poet Graves has only ever wanted to be free. But no matter where she turns, she’s held captive-by a power she doesn’t understand, a truth she no longer believes in, and a love she can’t deny.

As Poet is drawn further into Rook's world, his secrets force her to question who she can trust. But when friends turn into enemies, enemies prove to be allies, and the place that was once a safe harbour is revealed as the eye of the storm, Poet's only choice is to fight for what she believes in.

When New Manhattan's darkest secrets refuse to stay hidden, the cause Poet and Rook fight for will be called into question. The answers are out there . . . and they could destroy everything.

The thrilling continuation to a thrilling upper YA romantasy by Nisha J. Tuli, where Divergent meets The Cruel Prince in a glittering, storm-wrecked Manhattan where the elite rule through legacy—and one forbidden romance could tear it all apart.

The Storm Breaker trilogy is best enjoyed in order.

I generally prefer multiple narrators, but Soneela Nankani delivers excellent solo narration, with distinct character voices and convincing male voices. She made an already absorbing story very easy to keep listening to.

Storm Caller picks up exactly where book one ends, and although the opening angst felt much more noticeably YA this time, I still listened practically nonstop.

Exploring the Wastes and meeting Rook’s family were highlights—especially Navy. I also loved the reversal of Poet becoming the outsider, facing the same kind of prejudice Rook experienced in New Manhattan. Her growing confidence and emerging role as a symbol of rebellion made her development across these two books particularly satisfying.

Several plot points were easy to predict, and the Divergent comparisons make sense, but Tuli’s immersive world and engaging characters kept me thoroughly invested. Her books have a knack for making a reading slump someone else’s problem. Naturally, the cliffhanger left me wanting the next one immediately.

Predictable turns, compulsive listening
