Publisher's Summary

From the author of the New York Times and international best seller Unfu*k Yourself, Gary John Bishop presents a no-holds-barred guide to breaking through our cycles of self-sabotage to get what we want out of life.

In Unfu*k Yourself, Gary John Bishop told us it was time to stop making excuses - to recognise and take responsibility for the negative self-talk holding us back.

In Stop Doing That Sh*t, he builds on that message, teaching us how to stop self-sabotaging behaviour. Bishop explains how our destructive cycles come down to the way that we’re wired. He then identifies different types of people and the ways we fu*k ourselves over: we can’t save money. We land in the same type of toxic relationship. We’re stuck in a rut at work. Analysing why we act the way we do, including what our common grenades are that blow up our lives, Bishop then shows how we can interrupt the cycle and stop self-sabotaging our lives.

Written in the same in-your-face style as Unfu*k Yourself, Stop Doing that Sh*t will help us get in touch with our psychological machinery so we learn to interrupt negative thoughts and behaviour before they start, allowing us to give our attention to something else and start to find success in the areas we thought we never could.

We can take back our lives. We may have fu*ked up in the past, but Stop Doing That Sh*t will show us how to break the patterns in order to live the lives we yearn to have.

Mixed thoughts

I’m not completely sure whether I enjoyed this book or not, the lessons are fairly common although conveyed differently to many other similar themed books. I think the written book may be better than the audio book. For me, and this isn’t a criticism of the author at all, I found the narration a bit too shouty which came across as a hotchpotch accented evangelist on a US TV channel.

Nothing new here... a bit disappointing

If you need someone to yell at you about things you probably already know, this could be quite useful. I'm a fan of Gary's other work, but I didn't find anything new or overly useful in this. It's an entertaining listen, as are all of his products, but I felt it was a bit of a waste of purchase for me. It's possibly because I've read a lot in this area previously, but I was still hoping for more than the basics in this book.

Great read

Couldnt listen to his shouting at night, but loved his message and the Scottish accent!
I also loved Garys analogy of creating your vision day by day, starting now, and taking ownership of all that you are while you do it, ugly bits and all.
Can't wait to begin creating my vision of what and how I want to be, relate and experience for the rest of my life.
Cheers potty mouth, and THANKS !!

Just what I needed to hear.

If you’re really looking to change your life, break your endless cycle of self sabotage, but not inspired by smug American do gooders or bland robotic therapists, then you will enjoy this book, need this book as much as I did.
Sometimes a shouty, no bullshit, in your face passionate Scotsman is just who you need to hear it from, and in an amusing and engaging way.
Totally changed my outlook and given me the tools to move forward with my life.

This is REAL advice!

This is the first book that I’ve felt has put the finger on the true key of personal development and growth. Everything else is either BS or good books to become more organized and efficient!
This books addresses the core of every person’s problem for not fulfilling their potential.
Strongly recommend!

Garbage

Spends 3 hours saying this book will help you change your life. Hints at having all the answers you need to hear without actually giving advice, real strategies or examples. Then the only part of the book that isn’t a trailer ends up saying childhood trauma, abuse, psychological disorders etc are all irrelevant and you just need to snap out of it and focus on the future. Complete Garbage.

Stop Doing That Sh*t

A brutally honest look at tackling yourself. No frills, no wishy washy compliments, just pure calling yourself out on your own sh*t.
if you don't like swearing, if you don't like looking at your own short-comings , if you don't like brutal honesty... don't read this book.

Way too shouty judgemental

The message gets lost in the shouty judgemental rants. This is all I remember from this book. It’s a shame I’m sure there were some real lessons that could have been useful.

Please read this book.

Gary pulls no punches, and wow, how he hits home! This is one of the most powerful ‘listen to’ books that I’ve experienced on Audible. I know I will listen to it time and time again because I need help freeing myself from my old ingrained opinions about myself and the world. But how wonderfully did he explain the ‘thrown’ part of our belief about life!!! That has changed the way I see everything. Thank you Gary.

I think this worked even better as an audio book, because the author is a no-nonsense speaker, and brings humour. Great to

rubbish

the whole notion of this book seems to be based on the idea that you can just shout at people to make them wake up and realise they should change. it doesn't actually tell you anything, or impart any wisdom or useful information..

total snake oil.
