Publisher's Summary

From the author of the New York Times and international best seller Unfu*k Yourself, Gary John Bishop presents a no-holds-barred guide to breaking through our cycles of self-sabotage to get what we want out of life.

In Unfu*k Yourself, Gary John Bishop told us it was time to stop making excuses - to recognise and take responsibility for the negative self-talk holding us back.

In Stop Doing That Sh*t, he builds on that message, teaching us how to stop self-sabotaging behaviour. Bishop explains how our destructive cycles come down to the way that we’re wired. He then identifies different types of people and the ways we fu*k ourselves over: we can’t save money. We land in the same type of toxic relationship. We’re stuck in a rut at work. Analysing why we act the way we do, including what our common grenades are that blow up our lives, Bishop then shows how we can interrupt the cycle and stop self-sabotaging our lives.

Written in the same in-your-face style as Unfu*k Yourself, Stop Doing that Sh*t will help us get in touch with our psychological machinery so we learn to interrupt negative thoughts and behaviour before they start, allowing us to give our attention to something else and start to find success in the areas we thought we never could.

We can take back our lives. We may have fu*ked up in the past, but Stop Doing That Sh*t will show us how to break the patterns in order to live the lives we yearn to have.

Nothing new here... a bit disappointing

If you need someone to yell at you about things you probably already know, this could be quite useful. I'm a fan of Gary's other work, but I didn't find anything new or overly useful in this. It's an entertaining listen, as are all of his products, but I felt it was a bit of a waste of purchase for me. It's possibly because I've read a lot in this area previously, but I was still hoping for more than the basics in this book.

Life Changing

Maybe it was something to do with timing , but this book is the most impactful self help book I've read in three decades. If you let it, this book will help you become the person you want to be, and help you identify what has held you back until now. Essential reading.

Great read

Couldnt listen to his shouting at night, but loved his message and the Scottish accent! I also loved Garys analogy of creating your vision day by day, starting now, and taking ownership of all that you are while you do it, ugly bits and all. Can't wait to begin creating my vision of what and how I want to be, relate and experience for the rest of my life. Cheers potty mouth, and THANKS !!

Holy f#%@ of a s&=#

Unexpectedly brilliant. I'm normally skeptical of such books but this was a brilliant listen. Sentence after sentence hit perpetual home runs. I'll be revisiting this regularly and probably listen to the last chapter every week from now on. Yeah, the message at times can seem simple but it's these simple and straightforward messages that make the difference. Time to make something of myself! insha allah

Life-changing... honestly.

I’ve listened to this book twice, and think I’ll do it a third time too. There are so many insights, truth bombs and layers to this book. If you’re not where you’d like to be in life, if you keep repeating and getting trapped by old patterns... this could be what sets you free.

Tough love

There’s some handy stuff here to help break those annoying habits we all hold that hold us back. However, even allowing for the author’s deliberate tough love approach, I still found the shouty narration here exhausting in parts. Useful, but maybe buy the paper version

Totally kicks ass (hopefully yours)

At first I found Bishop’s choice to Narrate this book himself interesting after he chose Angus King to narrate the last one. I know it’s totally subjective, but as a native, and current resident, of Scotland I found King’s voice more familiar and subsequently pleasing to listen to, as opposed to Bishop’s hybrid American-Scottish tones. It’s the difference between listening to Billy Connolly Vs Gerald Butler. On finishing the book, I’ve changed my mind on this & appreciate the author’s passion & conviction which come through in abundance, and I’m not convinced someone else could pull that off as well if it wasn’t their material. This book, like the last, pulls no punches & is exactly what I needed, and will continue to need, to hear. This will be reread multiple times, hopefully soon. Will definitely be recommending this to others, it’s like have your own private therapy session with a master who isn’t shy to tell you what you need to here!

Please read this book.

Gary pulls no punches, and wow, how he hits home! This is one of the most powerful ‘listen to’ books that I’ve experienced on Audible. I know I will listen to it time and time again because I need help freeing myself from my old ingrained opinions about myself and the world. But how wonderfully did he explain the ‘thrown’ part of our belief about life!!! That has changed the way I see everything. Thank you Gary.

Not great

Gary talks a lot but never seems to get to the point. His accent is extremely distracting, veering from Scottish, to American and even to Irish. Listened to the book beginning to end and still don’t know what point he was trying to make.

Stop Doing That Sh*t

A brutally honest look at tackling yourself. No frills, no wishy washy compliments, just pure calling yourself out on your own sh*t. if you don't like swearing, if you don't like looking at your own short-comings , if you don't like brutal honesty... don't read this book.

A definite MUST READ especially for the perennial self development junkie. There's a lot of gems in here
