Story
For decades we've been told that positive thinking is the key to a happy, rich life. "F*ck positivity," Mark Manson says. "Let's be honest, shit is f*cked, and we have to live with it." In his wildly popular Internet blog, Manson doesn't sugarcoat or equivocate. He tells it like it is - a dose of raw, refreshing, honest truth that is sorely lacking today. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck is his antidote to the coddling, let's-all-feel-good mind-set that has infected modern society and spoiled a generation, rewarding them with gold medals just for showing up.

There are times when life feels like it has you cornered: financial difficulties, relationship issues, work problems, all of the above. Every one of us, at one time or another, will have to face up to the challenges that come our way. And there are two ways of meeting them: negatively, where blame is the answer, where other people are at fault, where you haven’t been treated fairly. Or positively, where you own the situation, learn and grow from it and become a better person at the end of it.

WAY TOO MUCH WIL AND POWER
- By Anonymous User on 23-01-2022
Publisher's Summary
From the author of the New York Times and international best seller Unfu*k Yourself, Gary John Bishop presents a no-holds-barred guide to breaking through our cycles of self-sabotage to get what we want out of life.
In Unfu*k Yourself, Gary John Bishop told us it was time to stop making excuses - to recognise and take responsibility for the negative self-talk holding us back.
In Stop Doing That Sh*t, he builds on that message, teaching us how to stop self-sabotaging behaviour. Bishop explains how our destructive cycles come down to the way that we’re wired. He then identifies different types of people and the ways we fu*k ourselves over: we can’t save money. We land in the same type of toxic relationship. We’re stuck in a rut at work. Analysing why we act the way we do, including what our common grenades are that blow up our lives, Bishop then shows how we can interrupt the cycle and stop self-sabotaging our lives.
Written in the same in-your-face style as Unfu*k Yourself, Stop Doing that Sh*t will help us get in touch with our psychological machinery so we learn to interrupt negative thoughts and behaviour before they start, allowing us to give our attention to something else and start to find success in the areas we thought we never could.
We can take back our lives. We may have fu*ked up in the past, but Stop Doing That Sh*t will show us how to break the patterns in order to live the lives we yearn to have.

Mixed thoughts
I’m not completely sure whether I enjoyed this book or not, the lessons are fairly common although conveyed differently to many other similar themed books. I think the written book may be better than the audio book. For me, and this isn’t a criticism of the author at all, I found the narration a bit too shouty which came across as a hotchpotch accented evangelist on a US TV channel.

Nothing new here... a bit disappointing
If you need someone to yell at you about things you probably already know, this could be quite useful. I'm a fan of Gary's other work, but I didn't find anything new or overly useful in this. It's an entertaining listen, as are all of his products, but I felt it was a bit of a waste of purchase for me. It's possibly because I've read a lot in this area previously, but I was still hoping for more than the basics in this book.

Great read
Couldnt listen to his shouting at night, but loved his message and the Scottish accent!
I also loved Garys analogy of creating your vision day by day, starting now, and taking ownership of all that you are while you do it, ugly bits and all.
Can't wait to begin creating my vision of what and how I want to be, relate and experience for the rest of my life.

Garbage
Spends 3 hours saying this book will help you change your life. Hints at having all the answers you need to hear without actually giving advice, real strategies or examples. Then the only part of the book that isn’t a trailer ends up saying childhood trauma, abuse, psychological disorders etc are all irrelevant and you just need to snap out of it and focus on the future. Complete Garbage.

Gary pulls no punches, and wow, how he hits home! This is one of the most powerful ‘listen to’ books that I’ve experienced on Audible. I know I will listen to it time and time again because I need help freeing myself from my old ingrained opinions about myself and the world.
