Publisher's Summary

The former gold-rush town of Blackwood has definitely seen better days. And it's now in the headlines for all the wrong reasons....

When three teenagers stumble upon a body in dense bushland one rainy Friday night, Senior Sergeant Mark Ariti's hopes for a quiet posting in his old home town are shattered. The victim is Aidan Sleeth, a local property developer, whose controversial plans to buy up Blackwood land means few are surprised he ended up dead.

However his gruesome murder is overshadowed by the mystery consuming the entire nation: the disappearance of Detective Sergeant Natalie Whitsted.

Natalie had been investigating the celebrity wife of crime boss Tony 'The Hook' Scopelliti when she vanished. What did she uncover? Has it cost her her life? And why are the two homicide detectives, sent from the city to run the Sleeth case, so obsessed with Natalie's fate?

But following a late-night call from his former boss, Mark is sure of one thing: he's now in the middle of a deadly game....

Throughly enjoyed this story.

The story was excellent, as was the narrator, & characters.
I don’t appreciate the “welcome to land” at the beginning & end, at all though.

Clever story, great listen!

First time listening to this narrator - I like him! Well written story, lots of suspense that saw me driving an extra block or two in the car so I could listen longer. Already downloaded another by the author.

I walked a lot of extra km's this week just so I could keep listening! I was intrigued to find out who did it. Excellent story with wonderful narration.

serious flaws

Well, for the author to be a teacher it is disappointing she didn't do her research properly. There were two blatant problems that just tainted a good story.
The first is there was no way it was suicide when there wasn't a gun in his dead hand or near enough. It shouldnt have even been considered. Like he could have gone and hide it after shooting himself in the back of the head!
Second is black wattle doesn't cause skin or lung problems if anything it is cure for skin problems. Why would you add that? Desperation for material? Totally deflates the story.
She has potential as a writer but serious flaws. Also for her proof readers and editors not to pick it up? too I won't be listening to another one.

Wonderful! Highly recommended!

Love the story, setting, characters, writing, narration. All the language rings true. I love that the writing stays true with the use of Australian terms rather than using Americanised language/terms. The tiny details of daily life draw the reader/listener into the story rather than being a spectator. I particularly love the description of Jimmy Barnes's singing - spot on! You will have to read/listen to find that gem. I cannot wait to read more by Margaret Hickey. Thank you, Margaret.
