Story
John Taliaferro Thompson had a mission: to develop a lightweight, fast-firing weapon that would help Americans win on the battlefield. His Thompson submachine gun could deliver 100 bullets in a matter of seconds - but didn't find a market in the US military. Instead, the Tommy gun became the weapon of choice for a generation of bootleggers and bank-robbing outlaws, and became a deadly American icon. Following a bloody decade - and 80 years before the mass shootings of our own time - Congress moved to take this weapon off the streets, igniting a national debate about gun control.
Publisher's Summary
"Your time is limited... have the courage to follow your heart and intuition."
—Steve Jobs
From the start, his path was never predictable. Steve Jobs was given up for adoption at birth, dropped out of college after one semester, and at the age of 20, created Apple in his parents' garage with his friend Steve Wozniack. Then came the core and hallmark of his genius - his exacting insistence on perfection, his counterculture life approach, and his level of taste and style that pushed all boundaries. A devoted husband, father, and Buddhist, he battled cancer for over a decade, became the ultimate CEO, and made the world want every product he touched.
Critically acclaimed author Karen Blumenthal takes us to the core of this complicated and legendary man while simultaneously exploring the evolution of computers. Framed by Jobs' inspirational Stanford commencement speech, this is the story of the man who changed our world.

Like Cliff's Notes to the Issacson book
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
This was just a brief retelling of information I had read in other Jobs biographies with no new spin or information. It was just a less in-depth version of the Issacson book. I was really disappointed.
What do you think your next listen will be?
Already listening to Disney War. It is a great listen!
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

FROM CHILD TO ADULT A MAN WHO WALKED HIS OWN PATH
Where does Steve Jobs: The Man Who Thought Different rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
This is truly unique, I have never listened to a biography before, thus was a great , intriguing and entertaining pick for my first experience
What did you like best about this story?
It was like being there as a fly on the wall throughout the life of Steve, to find out what drove this man to do what he did is quite inspiring, this title really captures the essence of that
Have you listened to any of Sean Runnette’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No, but I really enjoyed the way he nailed the " authentic feeling" of the context of literally every paragraph. It was just right. Great job Sean!
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
When he sat in his car and said " if this was my last night on earth..would I want to spend it at some meeting, or with this women ...and he asked her (Powell) out to dinner :)
Any additional comments?
Absolutely fascinating to get an insiders look at the struggles, successes, and events that shaped a mans destiny to literally change the world

Intriguing guy
What made the experience of listening to Steve Jobs: The Man Who Thought Different the most enjoyable?
Steve Jobs had a really amazing life, and he was a very complex, interesting guy. I am not sure I would have liked to have worked with him, but genius visionaries are often erratic and difficult. It's an amazing thing to create something from nothing, and Steve Jobs, for better or worse, changed the world, because he changed how we are social with one another, incorporating technology.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Steve Jobs: The Man Who Thought Different?
When he was held up at gunpoint for his (illegal) blue box device that made free long distance calls. To think he went through an experience as shady as that and still built the (arguably) world's most successful company, is amazing.
What does Sean Runnette bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Sean Runnette was quite good. He took his time, he was authentic in his delivery and he engaged me easily.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
I think Job's speech to Stanford was very moving.
Any additional comments?
To understand why technology is used as it is today in the personal realm, it's important to understand how it all came about, and the personality who drove it all. The brand image and marketing of the products are sometimes very different than the usage of technology by the man who proliferated them (he did not allow his children to have iphones/ipads for example). The proliferation of technology by Steve Jobs was sometime benevolent, wanting to expand the horizons of human experience and possibility. But Apple, and Steve, were not always about "changing the world" or "enriching lives" or creating personal freedom. Sometimes it was simply about competition, ego and creating a financially successful business in the marketplace. The way all these forces personified themselves in Steve Jobs is amazing to read about, and ultimately determined much of how we use technology, and interact with each other, today.

Unbiased Easy listening
What did you love best about Steve Jobs: The Man Who Thought Different?
Great Narrator. Doesn't tell you what to think, just presents the facts. Apple Loves may not like this book as it paints a darker picture of your beloved demigod.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Woz
Have you listened to any of Sean Runnette’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Easy on the ear. 9/10 for narration
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Somewhat comprehensive overview of Jobs life. I never listened to the famous book by sir whatever, but this book is definately a mind opening view into Steve jobs and Apple and important events in technology that shape our current ecoverse. What a rich whinny tosser Steve jobs was. (Woz) A fortunate set of circumstances and meetings and his drive to get whatever he needed, allowed him to force some of the brightest people on the planet to create a computer so smart, even dumb people can use it.
Any additional comments?
Long live the mighty Droid.
