In Sternjas kleinem Tal gibt es schon lange keinen richtigen weißen Winter mehr. Alles ist öd, kalt und grau, und wie ein Leichentuch liegt eine Nebeldecke über dem Land. Darüber ist Sternja sehr traurig, vor allem auch deshalb, weil ihr die Grossmutter erzählt, wie schön es früher war. Scheinbar spüren die anderen Dorfbewohner nichts von ihrem Unglück, denn sie sind längst schon selber innerlich vor Kälte erstarrt. Es macht sogar den Kindern nichts aus, dass auch das Christkind in dieses Tal nicht mehr kommen will. Über dem Tal herrscht unbemerkt Azzorro der Herr der Dunkelheit. Plötzlich klopft ein Weisses Reh an Sternjas Fenster, und erzählt, dass das kleine Mädchen dazu ausersehen ist, das Tal und damit die ganze Welt zu retten. Azzorro möchte das um jeden Preis verhindern, und es entsteht ein heftiger Kampf der Mächte zwischen Hell und Dunkel, Gut und Böse, Egoismus und Mitmenschlichkeit. Kann Sternja die Macht Azzorros brechen und schafft sie es, die Menschen im kleinen Tal und damit die Welt zu retten?
