This book started slowly. The author spent the first few chapters outlining his troubled childhood. Hang on, I thought. Unwanted a travel book, not a biography. But soon the story morphed into adulthood and the pieces began to fit. Within another chapter or two I was riveted, and found each story ever more fascinating. Try it and stick with it and I’m sure you will love it too.

I have watched many of Simons documentaries over the years so was surprised to listen to his full life story. Overcoming the adversity in his childhood made his success all the more inspiring. His ability to see & listen to the people he meets without judgement is endearing & so educational. Loved this book to bits. Would recommend to all who want to learn more about the world (past the standard Insta posts!)

A great narration of a great book about an awe inspiring life, touching on the beauty as well the suffering in the world. As human as it gets. I found the book to start slow but was well worth hanging in there. The experiences shared were touching, entertaining, informative, eye opening, at times shocking, heart breaking, other times funny and uplifting, over all deeply moving. This book is a worthy adventure to expose yourself to, to learn much more about the world and humanity, delivered with empathy, tact and genuine authenticity.
