Publisher's Summary

The embattled Republic reels from the attacks of Grand Admiral Thrawn, who has marshaled the remnants of the Imperial forces and driven the Rebels back with an abominable technology recovered from the Emperor's secret fortress: clone soldiers.

As Thrawn mounts his final siege, Han and Chewbacca struggle to form a coalition of smugglers for a last-ditch attack against the empire. Leia holds the Alliance together and prepares for the birth of her Jedi twins.

Overwhelmed by the ships and clones at Thrawn's command, the New Republic has one last hope: sending a small force, led by Luke Skywalker, into the stronghold that houses Thrawn's terrible cloning machines. There a final danger awaits, as the Dark Jedi C'baoth directs the battle against the Rebels and builds his strength to finish what he has already started: the destruction of Luke Skywalker.

Anthony Daniels KILLS it again

Is there anything you would change about this book?

As with book 2, I enjoy Timothy Zahn's writing and I feel he very much captures the flavor of the Star Wars universe. Anthony Daniels narration was in my opinion nothing short of terrible. The strange inflections and tones attributed to characters was laughable and painful in spots (the way he portrays Joruus C'Baoth was horrendous). Also to add his pronunciations (such as CHIMERA being pronounced Ki-MOO-rah) really took away from the book. It was rather painful to get through, but I wanted to finish out the trilogy.

Also as with book 2 the abridgement was a bit choppy, but in this book it really felt like there were huge gaps left in the story that made it seem inplausible.

Would you ever listen to anything by Timothy Zahn again?

Yes

Would you be willing to try another one of Anthony Daniels’s performances?

Absolutely not.

This must be an abridged version

Be careful the other Thrawn trilogy books I listened to were by random house audio and over 10 hrs in length. this audio book is only 3 hrs long.

Love the book, dislike the abridged part

This trilogy by Zahn is what brought Star Wars back into our collective conscience. Why then are his audio books abridged? I love the story, and I love being able to listen to it on my iPod at the gym, but slightly disappointed in not being able to listen to the entire work as Zahn originally penned it. It's still a good listen, even though it leaves out half the book. It would be awesome though, if there were radio drama style, unabridged, versions of his books.

Good, but why waste time creating abridged books?

The story is ok and well performed, but I just don't understand why publishers waste time creating abridged books. By not needing to use your eyes, your reading time is greatly expanded. Abridging is a travesty to begin with - even made worst by doing it on this format...and then not even offering the unabridged version. I don't see how any abridged book can get higher than a mediocre rating.

That narrator sure does a great C-3PO

An abridged book is what it is, and some may not like. But for sure that narrator does an excellent C-3PO!

Not what it could have been

This was a terrible ending to what has been a great story. Also, the narrator on this book was different than the previous 2 and he kinda sucked a lot.

Really took me back.

On Christmas as a kid, my dad got me a cassette tape off this. I played it every night until one of the cassettes broke. After a while, the other cassette broke. for years I have been dying to find the exact audiobook read by the voice actor of C-3PO. only place I could find it was here. it's still as beautiful as the day I lost it.

the narrator is HORRIBLE

such a BIG waste of money the narrator messed up every other name of characters and places as well as not being able to make dynamics differences between different characters, it was hard to tel how was talking because they all sounded alike. I usually dont complain but this is utter garbage please skip this and just read it so you dont have to sit through three hours of this just to find out the ending

Voice actor changed

The new voice actor made everything sound like 7 yo kids or a bunxh of senile reptilians screaming at each other. Random house productions were better.

Narrator ruins it

Great story but 3PO reduces the characters to childlike representations of good and evil using silly voices. Imperials sinister, Rebels bold and strong and weirdly all smugglers are cockneys in this universe. Shows total lack of understanding for what was a great book. Denis Lawson (Wedge) much better in book 1.

Not bad but too much missing

While I do love this trilogy, there's so much of the plot missing in this abridged version that it doesn't do the original any kind of justice. Anthony Daniels does a good job with the material he has but the occasional music and sound effects are more annoying than helpful in my opinion.

Perfectly captures the spirit of Star Wars

This series perfectly captures the spirit of the original Star Wars movies, while at the same time introducing a host of new, interesting characters, exciting battles and plot twists. It is an abridged version of the story, but I still really enjoyed it. Anthony Daniels (C-3PO from the movies) gives an enjoyable performance and really makes the story come alive. These stories could easily have been the sequels to the movies and are some of the best Star Wars stories that I have experienced, even though they are no longer 'official canon'. Well worth a read/listen if you are a fan of the movies.
