About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

Before the Rebellion, the Empire reigned. The first book in a new trilogy.

"In order to ensure the security and continuing stability, the Republic will be reorganized into the first Galactic Empire! For a safe and secure society!"

With one speech, and thunderous applause, Chancellor Palpatine brought the era of the Republic crashing down. In its place rose the Galactic Empire. Across the galaxy, people rejoiced and celebrated the end to war—and the promises of tomorrow. But that tomorrow was a lie. Instead the galaxy became twisted by the cruelty and fear of the Emperor’s rule.

During that terrifying first year of tyranny, Mon Mothma, Saw Gerrera, and Bail Organa face the encroaching darkness. One day, they will be three architects of the Rebel Alliance. But first, each must find purpose and direction in a changing galaxy, while harboring their own secrets, fears, and hopes for a future that may never come, unless they act.

The use of "they" instead of "her or him" makes this book a little confusing.

Good book, not great but not bad either!

This book is dry, slow paced, and adds little to the Starwars EU.

Narration is very average, with little to distinguish charater voices.

I listened to the entire book and would struggle to tell you what it's about.

Uninteresting and Slow

The Worst Star Wars Book I Have Ever Listened to or Read since picking up The Empire Strikes Back Novelisation in 1981!!!

Boring

I was excited for this book to prepare for Andor Season 2, and was disappointed to find it is uninspired, badly written slop. The story is full of inconsistencies and contradictions. The drama is highly predictable. The characters of Mon Mothma and Bail Organa are fundamentally inconsistent with their portrayal in other Star Wars works. The book tries to connect to contemporary politics, but it is fitting a square peg into the round hole of the original 6 films, and even Andor, which was thematic and sophisticated rather than a hack agenda. It honestly achieved the opposite of it's intended effect, and shows that the modern world is actually nothing like the rise of the Empire and Palpatine.

I would highly recommend the Legends novel Dark Lord: Rise of Vader for a timeless, rich tale that picks up immediately after Revenge of the Sith and covers the same space in the Star Wars universe.

Disappointing hack garbage
