About this listen

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • The official novelization of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the blockbuster film directed by J. J. Abrams.

More than thirty years ago, Star Wars burst onto the big screen and became a cultural phenomenon. Now the next adventures in this blockbuster saga are poised to captivate old and new fans alike—beginning with the highly anticipated Star Wars: The Force Awakens. And alongside the cinematic debut comes the thrilling novel adaptation by New York Times bestselling science fiction master Alan Dean Foster.

Set years after Return of the Jedi, this stunning new action-packed adventure rockets us back into the world of Princess Leia, Han Solo, Chewbacca, C-3PO, R2-D2, and Luke Skywalker, while introducing a host of exciting new characters. Darth Vader may have been redeemed and the Emperor vanquished, but peace can be fleeting, and evil does not easily relent. Yet the simple belief in good can still empower ordinary individuals to rise and meet the greatest challenges.

So return to that galaxy far, far away, and prepare yourself for what happens when the Force awakens. . . .

Praise for Star Wars: The Force Awakens

“Like all the best novelizations, Alan Dean Foster’s adaptation of Star Wars: The Force Awakens enriches the movie experience. The novel goes beyond simply giving us insight into the characters’ thoughts, with plenty of additional scenes painting a broader picture of the galaxy.”—New York Daily News

“Fast-moving, atmospheric and raises goose-bumps at just the right moments. [Foster] not only evokes entire onscreen worlds . . . he also gives us glimpses of an even more vast, unseen universe.”The Washington Post

“Was my experience of the film enriched by the book? Yes. No question. Is the novelization worth reading? Yes. . . . Foster has written a book that captures the spirit of the film, while presenting additional information that helps answer some of the questions that linger.”Coffee with Kenobi

Exceptional narration. Its a familiar story but still a good one. Gives you a little more insight into the characters and an extra scene here and there.

Very entertaining

Loved it, well written and well read. Worthy of being the beginning story .

Another Star Wars master piece from Marc Thompson. I actually thought he did some lines and sections (a lot) better or passionate than the movie. Obviously it's different for actors where there are also strong visual impacts.

Story is great, a lot of things get a deeper explanation than in the movie. There are more scenes. The start is very elaborate where's the end is pretty much in time with the movie, maybe even quicker in sections.

Great Audio Version Of Novelisation

Star Wars has returned, and not with cheap gimmicks or stupid characters, but with a classic story line, favourite characters and new ones, and the magic that we all know and love.
Having seen the movie, I wanted to read the book to see what it was like, how much different it was, was there any little extra's that are sometimes in the book.
I remember reading Return of the Jedi as a kid and loving the fact that there was all these little extras hidden away. And with Alan Dean Foster writing the book, how can you go wrong.
And so I grabbed the audiobook, and I was not disappointed.
Marc Thompson's Narration is wonderful, with a great range of voices (His Kylo Ren is awesome!) and he has such incredible enthusiasm for his reading. Foster has been very true to the script of the film, and I guess that to some extent this is a partial review of the film?
I loved this story, it was a return to the original classic Star Wars that we loved from the original saga, and it was back in all its glory.
I was so happy from the opening scene when the Star Destroyer glides over the planet - and I knew that Abrams was going to do justice by the story. Foster has just followed the script.
However, as you hope with all the adaptions, there are little extra's, whether these are deleted scenes or bits in the script that Foster has added in, or just poetic licence, regardless, they add so much extra to the story, and make it worth the read.
Another great thing about this audiobook is the effort that has gone into its production. Not only has Marc Thompson done a great job on the narration, there is the exceptional soundtrack that goes with it. Right the way through the story, there is a musical soundtrack, but there is also special effects (such as lightsabers, blasters, explosions, ship sounds etc)
I had not expected this at all, and it gave the audiobook a whole new depth. I was concerned that maybe it was going to detract from the book a few times, but it certainly didn't, making the book that much more exceptional.
There is really nothing bad that can be said about this book, brilliant narration, superb special effects, fantastic story, what more could you want?
If you love Star Wars, if you have or haven't seen the movie, this is worth the read!

Star Wars at its best, brilliant effects
