Luke Skywalker and Lando Calrissian return in this essential novel set between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens.

The Empire is dead. Nearly two decades on from the Battle of Endor, the tattered remnants of Palpatine's forces have fled to the farthest reaches of the galaxy. But for the heroes of the New Republic, danger and loss are ever-present companions, even in this newly forged era of peace.

Jedi Master Luke Skywalker is haunted by visions of the dark side, foretelling an ominous secret growing somewhere in the depths of space, on a dead world called Exegol. The disturbance in the Force is undeniable...and Luke's worst fears are confirmed when his old friend Lando Calrissian comes to him with reports of a new Sith menace.

After his daughter was stolen from his arms, Lando searched the stars for any trace of his lost child. But every new rumor only led to dead ends and fading hopes—until he crossed paths with Ochi of Bestoon, a Sith assassin tasked with kidnapping a young girl.

Ochi's true motives remain shrouded to Luke and Lando. For on a junkyard moon, a mysterious envoy of the Sith Eternal has bequeathed a sacred blade to the assassin, promising that it will give him answers to the questions that have haunted him since the Empire fell. In exchange, he must complete a final mission: return to Exegol with the key to the Sith's glorious rebirth—the granddaughter of Darth Sidious himself, Rey.

As Ochi hunts Rey and her parents to the edge of the galaxy, Luke and Lando race into the mystery of the Sith's lingering shadow and aid a young family running for their lives.

I loved it.

I dislike the sequel trilogy, but I enjoyed this book so much. I really enjoyed both Lando and Luke as main characters, I loved the concept of the sith mask and the story of Rey's family trying to escape from hunters was very engaging.

expands greatly on episode 9 rise of skywalker

Landos portrayal in this was perfect he made the book for me, not to mention a light Saber duel to rival any other duel. Luke's so stoic, and polite, his portrayal I liked I can see how they will expand on him, fabulous introduction of other characters also, Ochi was awesome such a different character, I reckon you'll love or hate him tho. lots of R2D2 aswell, oh and cute baby Rey, did I mention sith?

Not great

A rough attempt to fill out the space between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens. It was a good opportunity to see Luke develop further between the fall of the Empire and becoming a hermit but there was limited character development.

I was nice to see tie ins with some other characters in the post Empire canon. However the story was very derivative at times to the point of being cliché.

The voice acting wasn’t very good, and didn’t help to elevate an average story. The elocution was really bad at times, leaving me questioning the writing.

The best thing that I can say about this story is that it has made me want to watch The Rise of Skywalker again, to confirm how the two stories mesh. Whether watching TRoS again is a good thing I not I will leave to whoever is reading this review.

All the good bits from Star Wars...

and none of the child focussed marketting. Great sounds and music and brilliant voice performance - especially Luke and Lando.

Wow, just wow.

Incredible book, great narration and great story, awesome protagonists and some great/interesting villains, a sad but kind of sweet ending that made me want to cry and smile at the same time. 10/10

This was dark and moody, but I also cried!

Wow, there was so much to love about this book. I loved getting to know Rey's parents and seeing little Rey. Seeing Luke as Jedi Master and Ben Solo as an eager learner, Anakin as a force ghost (YASS!!), and so much more.

Even knowing Rey's parents' ultimate demise, their capture by Ochi of Bestoon was written so well, and I cried. This story made me sit on the edge of chairs in fear, it was dark, and it made me really care for little Rey and her parents.

Covers a lot of ground.

Disney said "people had so many questions, let's answer them!" and they did.
