About this listen
Zach Reed had two objectives when he joined the CIA team led by Ian and Charlotte Taggart. First, he needed to get close to Cooper McKay. Second, he needed to sideline or dismantle their operation. Caught between his mission and his friends, his secrets are exposed, and his only choice is to run. He hopes someday he can make it up to the team and the young woman he's fallen hopelessly in love with.
Devi Taggart thought she finally found the man of her dreams. Spending a long weekend with Zach filled her soul and satisfied all her deepest desires. But dreams turned to nightmares when she discovered he betrayed his team, including her brother. When Zach disappears, Devi swears to turn her back on the man forever. Unfortunately, the real bad guys have figured out she is Zach's weak spot, which makes her a major target.
With Devi in real danger, Zach takes the situation into his own hands and offers her a place to stay with him. An offer he's not about to let her refuse. As they navigate a criminal underworld, Zach is committed to showing Devi he's the right man for her. If only they can survive his family.
Contains mature themes.

For a book that wasn't meant to exist - our main man Zach Reed wasn't meant to have his own story - this book is up there with my favourites of the series thus far (Tasha & Kala's books for those who care). Devon Taggart is the daughter of Erin & Theo (two of my all time favourite characters) and Devi & Zach have a flash fire romance that is interrupted when Zach's past is revealed and Devi is left alone. I enjoyed that Lexi Blake gave us a few chapters showing the initial stages of the relationship between these two before picking up where the previous book left off - with Devi kidnapped by Zach so he can protect her from Emmanual Huisman. The reason this book is so good is because we get great character development with Zach & Devi as both realise they have a lot to learn about themselves and where they went wrong in their relationship before coming together as the amazing couple they can be. And on top of that, we get cameos that I desperately didn't know I needed but were the absolute highlight of the book (so many good scenes!!!!). And then we get the final few chapters which link up to what we know from the Taggart Family Values novella about Kenzie & Ben and to see that happen from a different point of view was AMAZING!! Finally - that epilogue. Tears formed as Theo narrated the future of his children (it's so good to see this man happy!!) while also mentioning something going down with one of our fave characters which has me desperate for the final book in this series to come out! Another incredible book by one of my favourite authors!
Once again Ryan West does an absolutely incredible job of bringing these characters to life. His accent work was on point and I could listen to this man narrate these stories forever!
He was so tired of living in the shadows...
