Publisher's Summary

A young woman is caught up in a dangerous double life on behalf of her country during World War II in Danielle Steel's thrilling new novel.

At 18, Alexandra Wickham is presented to King George V and Queen Mary in an exquisite white lace and satin dress her mother has ordered from Paris. With her delicate blond looks, she is a stunning beauty who seems destined for a privileged life. But fate, a world war, and her own quietly rebellious personality lead her down a different path.

By 1939, Europe is on fire and England is at war. From her home in idyllic Hampshire, Alex makes her way to London as a volunteer in the First Aid Nursing Yeomanry. But she has skills that draw the attention of another branch of the service. Fluent in French and German, she would make the perfect secret agent.

Within a year, Alex is shocking her family in trousers and bright red lipstick. They must never know about the work she does-no one can know, not even the pilot she falls in love with. While her country and those dearest to her pay the terrible price of war, Alex learns the art of espionage, leading to life-and-death missions behind enemy lines and a long career as a spy in exotic places and historic times.

Spy follows Alex's extraordinary adventures in World War II and afterward in India, Pakistan, Morocco, Hong Kong, Moscow, and Washington, D.C., when her husband, Richard, enters the foreign service and both become witnesses to a rapidly changing world from post-war to Cold War. She lives life on the edge, with a secret she must always keep hidden.

Loved it

This is one of Danielle Steel’s best books. They’ve been a bit average the past few years. I didn’t want this one to end.

Great book

This book reminds me of of how Danielle Steel used to write years ago. I love her older books and I love this one too.

Typical Danielle Steele

Where all the women were beautiful and rich and shallow and enjoyed the very good life provided by the taxpayers Living in luxury right next to utter devastating poverty in India and Pakistan and Hong Kong. Main character was too busy being fabulous Good fairy tale and ended good with a perfect child and three perfect beautiful granddaughters shallow as she was Entertaining easy read but very false info about her numerous drops spying on nazis behind enemy lines but I forget this is fiction. Guess I’ve read too many novels of the real spies I appreciate no profanity and no gratuitous sex. With that it’s a good read for all ages and a rare thing these days

Disappointed

Very disappointed!!!! I love all her books!! But this one wasn’t engaging enough; the characters weren’t developed sufficiently; the heroine was selfish and the husband wasn’t realistic in any aspect; the story was flat!! I’m sorry I didn’t like it

Romance novel with minimum real spy or other drama

I was disappointed because I expected more drama not necessarily relate to family status. More detail involving espionage, politics, and prevailing circumstances would make it more interesting. Also, large sometimes annoying gaps in time for events described .

A wonderful novel, shorter than usual, I was born in Hampshire and have lived in the US many years, gave me a very warm feeling of home. Thank you.

Great book but the reader.....

Great book but the reader was not so good. So many pauses, in the wrong places. It made listening to the book very hard at times, almost painful, and I would not listen to it again. I love Danielle Steel’s books but I will return this one as the reading was so bad.
