Publisher's Summary

Being insatiably curious is a good way to end up dead.

Rain Christiansen, cold-case detective and reluctant medium, is very aware of that fact. But when infamous serial killer Thomas Kane wants to meet, there's no way Rain can say no. He also can't refuse Kane's offer - find his missing wife, Delilah, and he'll reveal the location of his victim's bodies.

Rain has never turned down a good quid pro quo, and he doesn't intend to start.

The hunt for Kane's wife leads to yet another cold case, three copycat murders, and an investigation where nothing is as it seems. Soon, Rain is dealing with a ghost unlike any he's ever dealt with before...a ghost capable of doing things he shouldn't be able to do. How can Rain control something he doesn't even understand? And what will he do when the unknown threatens the safety of the most important person in his life?

Rain is starting to realize that he can only battle the supernatural with the supernatural, and that is spooky business indeed.

Scary, sweet, poignant - what more could you want!

Ghost whisperer, cold case detective. and all-round snarky guy, Rain Christiansen is helping the FBI with a serial killer case. One ghost in particular won’t take ‘no’ for an answer, putting others in danger. This is perhaps the most chilling and eerie of the wonderful Spectral Files series. As well as the serial killer storyline, there are some rich subplots here: Rain and Danny are still ironing out their relationship; their parents are complicating things; and Rain’s old FBI boss make him a tempting offer. SE Harmon has the knack of writing snarky, slightly grouchy characters like Rain with flair - I can’t help but smile at his generally irritated outlook and reluctance to be optimistic. The always-great Kirt Graves narrates the audio with a good blend of entertaining comic snarkiness and pathos.

an enjoyable series

"Then, there was me, who brought profiling and a wealth of serial killer knowledge. Oh, and ghosts. I brought a shitload of ghosts. Nobody asked for those, but I brought 'em anyway."

Rain really does bring the 'Spooky' in the third book in The Spectral Files. A serial killer, a copycat killer, an execution-style murder and the ghosts......all of the ghosts. In particular, a not so nice ghost that is determined to get Rain's attention. And then there is the humour added to the story in the form of his wonderful and very nutty parents & sister. They crack me up with their weirdness and willingness to accept all things weird and quirky. Plus they possess zero boundaries.

I'm really enjoying this series, love the 2 main characters Rain & Danny, their relationship has really developed across the series, and the mystery/suspense of what was going to happen next really kept me guessing as the pieces of the puzzle all slowly come together.

Kirt Graves was back to narrate the third book in this series, I really enjoy listening to his performances and enjoyed this one as well,
