l would loan this book from your library not buy

I wouldn't purchase this book. Have a loan from your library!

Patricia Cornwell is without doubt an obsessive compulsive about weapon and cyber details and persists in demonstrating her knowledge through her books. Her famous Scarpetta Series began to fall victim of her obsessiveness too. The last books of this series where the same idea was to compressed time so that all maddness took place in 24 hours or so. It becomes irritating to read a whole book like this.

l congratulate January LaVoy for her excellent reading of this work as she deserves it 100%.

However in the case of Spin it is a positive bore with obsessive detail, far fetched storyline, collapsing time detracts from the story. On refection l still cannot actually tell you what the hell the book is about.

A disappointing outing from Cromwell.

Fact show off

I was an avid PC reader 20 years ago and loved her writing. When I saw a recent PC novel on Audible I thought I would return. The author seems to be now totally absorbed with showing how much she knows about equipment and technical facts. To the point it became so annoying I stopped reading at Chapter 17. I was screaming “Nooooo!” every time she entered into a extensive description about some piece of equipment or protocol. Over it! Never again.

mind numbing

Struggled to get past the first hour. tried skipping ahead and that didn't help. Can't believe I wasted a credit and worse my time on this book.

Not expected

This book by one of my favorite authors just plain stinks. The story makes zero sense. Will not try to read anymore from this series.

No she didn't

Patricia Cornwell is one of my favorites but if this is what I have to look forward to in the future count me out. can you say B-O-R-I-N-G. Not up to Cornwell's usual standards. Hated the book with a capital H

disappointed

much of the story got lost in descriptions and history of buildings and machines that really didn't need to be there. these two books could easily have been condensed into one. and this is the way book two ends?

She’s Back!

Just finished Spin. I have to say I’m much better end product than the last one. I wasn’t left feeling like I was hanging out in left field. It’s hard to get away from the Scarpetta novels after so many but I do like the captain chase Storyline. It feels like Patricia Cornwell is back! Love her books and looking forward to the next one.

Great novel

I have to disagree with the other reviews. The plot was easy to follow, the scientific info was top notch and enthralling and I love where the story is going. A thriller novel with a strong, brilliant and bad ass female lead is more than I can ask for. Bravo to the author!

Redemption

As a follow on to the first book, this was much better. I knew that the second was coming and for what ever reason I had forgotten how much I had disliked the first, remembering only that Patricia Cornwall is one of my favorite Authors. Spin is the continuing story of two sisters on the cutting edge of technology, racing to beat the bad guys to save us all.

Two sisters moving along an exciting and dangerous technological personal and professional path. They are the hunters and the hunted. They support and frustrate each other. They hate and love each other.

Good Overall Story

Spoilt by too much over description which then causes me to lose focus on the story and needs to be listened again to.

"The future got here quicker than expected."

Ms.Cornwell is a fine writer, able to involve and trap her readers in much the same way the killers in her Scarpetta novels were able to toy with their victims. And all of her works are meticulously researched, like her personal investigation into the Jack the Ripper killings of Victorian London. And this book, second in the series, is no exception. Twin sisters are at the heart of this space-military-cyber-sci.fi story, groomed from birth to be special 'weapons' for the USA by both parents, a four star general (known as Dick) and who knows who else? working out of Langley and NASA. I think! It's all high powered stuff, even the President gets involved, and, of course, there is the leering face of evil in the form of a woman who always seems to get there first.I

In book one, a rocket had to be destroyed after a communications failure. The cyber war is, unknown to most, already in full flow and Calli and her daredevil (the attractive one) twin sister have to stop the next attack. Rather slow for the first half, but with some fun acronyms played out, like PEEPS and SPIES - extra special sun glasses and contact lenses - and the introduction of a super smart child and a temperamental AI, but the whole becomes stomach clenching thrilling as the test pilot takes to space: some great descriptions here. Narrator January le Vay is excellent, her voice melodious, pleasant in timbre and with good pacing and modulation. This is the sort of book I want to read twice, to fill in bits I missed first time round. And, left with a threat at the end, I can't wait for book three.

Not for me

Unfortunately far too different from historic Patricia Cornwell books, unrealistic, unnecessarily complex and not enjoyable.
