A retelling like no other

I was super excited to read this as I am a Disney nerd and love the fairy tales and retelling, even if they aren't 'disney' but this fell short. Besides the reference to the baby girl who gets cursed and a spinning wheel the rest was pretty generic. Not saying it was bad but preferencing the books blurb with the line 'what if beauty never went to sleep' was not the right line intro!!!

after reading a few other descriptions about the book, I realised I went in to this book with the wrong idea and had I started reading this book thinking it was a 'A feminist reimagining of the classic fairy tale of Sleeping Beauty, told from the perspective of the women at the heart of the story' (thank you Penguin Books) I would have had a different experiance.

now knowing this I can 100% say this book was epic and retold the storey in a reimagined was including the key elements we remember from the disney version (the baby girl cursed, the spinning wheel and the 3 fairy God mothers). the FMCs where plenty and their individual stories over the timeline felt genuin and believable.

Loved Sel and her journey, would love a spin off of this as well. The women all showed great courage, strength, love and vulnerability in the most raw way.

a lovely story, an ending I did not expect but am happy with and overall a lovely retelling.
