Summary
A Girl’s Guide to Witness Protection
- Testifying against your mobster father greatly reduces your life expectancy.
- Beware of blind dates with killer biceps and ulterior motives.
- Don’t even think about falling in love.
No one told mob princess Hope Whitmore how boring witness protection would be. So when her boss sets her up on a blind date, Hope throws caution to the wind. A girl’s gotta live a little, right? Wrong. Turns out her well-meaning boss secretly put her picture on a dating app, and Hope finds herself face-to-face with the father of the teenager she accused of murder.
Paratrooper Max Beaumont has uncovered evidence of his son’s innocence and tracked down the one witness who can set his kid free—on a dating app of all places—but it might be too late. Because someone else has found Hope too, and they’re dodging bullets before Max can offer to pick up the check.
Now they’re on a wild ride through the city of sin itself, Las Vegas, while outsmarting enemies, digging up secrets, and trying to ignore their crackling attraction. Because Max is exactly the kind of bad bet Hope should know better than to place. And Hope is proving even more distracting to Max than the killers in the rearview mirror. One way or another, this could well be their last first date ever…

A few “yeah right / as if”s, but that comes with the genre and they weren’t too distracting.
The romance is obviously predictable, but cute, and the sex scenes are without the cringe level you find in so many other novels 👌🏻 It actually takes a backseat to the whodunnit plot, which is also a nice change from numerous others with super flimsy plot lines that only serve to get the characters to hump each others’ bones.
Quite a few laughs scattered amongst all the drama as well, so would definitely recommend as a bit of quick & easy escapism.
4.5 stars, my 2nd favourite Brynn Kelly book (1st is Once Upon A Crime).
Great whodunnit with some romance 🕵️
