About this listen

Here is the story of two families, branches of the Solomons, transported to an alien land. Both branches eventually grow rich and powerful. But through three generations, the families never, for one moment, relinquish their hatred for each other. This novel is also the story of Australia, from its beginnings to its coming of age as a nation.©2013 Christine Courtenay (P)2014 Bolinda Publishing Pty Ltd Historical Fiction Fiction Thought-Provoking

Critic Reviews

"Narrator Humphrey Bower doesn't miss a nuance. His villains have a sharp, nasal nastiness, and his love scenes tickle the hairs at the nape of the neck. Bower's performance is spot-on." (Audiofile)

After listening to and being hooked by The Power of One and Tandia, I was looking for more.
A little reluctant thinking nothing could compare, I am so happy to say I breezed through this epic series.
So amazing! Thank you Bryce for your work in writing such an educational and entertaining piece of literature, and thank you Humphrey for your mind-blowing skills in narrating this also!
Lest we forget 🙏

Amazing on all levels!!!

a hard story about the needless Gallipoli campaign. Well narrated as always by Humphrey Bower he is the best. the story is the weakest in the trilogy but would recommend anyway.

Although I throughly enjoyed this book, as well as the previous 2, as Maori, I must say how unlikely Hinetetama’s wedding and some of her idiocies would have been highly unlikely.
I love how amazing the narrator reads, there’s a little bone of contention in this and the previous book about pronunciations of the Maori language that could of been pronounced properly with a little research and practice from a Pākehā speaker.
In all, Kia Ora Mr. Courtenay, Ka Pai.

Maori history questionable

I could literally listen to the story of these peoples lives for the rest of my own! What fantastic characters/people - all brought to life by the astounding Humphrey Bower 💛
I loved these books, and I can’t think of one person that wouldn’t!

I’m so sad this series is over!
