I thought the book was well written and just as beautifully descriptive as his other books. The narration was also excellent.
I couldn’t bring myself to enjoy or even understand the progression of the narrative though. There were elements of the characterisations that seemed unrealistic and some of the actions of the characters felt out of place or forced.
I still finished it because overall it painted a good picture of life at that time but I was occasionally drawn out of the story by thinking “that doesn’t seem like a natural response”
